4.0 out of 5 stars Good Brand/Good Equipment, June 27, 2000
This review is from: Steiner 8x30 Predator Binocular (Electronics)
I have used Steiner optics for the last 10 years, specifically the military variant. Whether calling in artillery or watching soldiers from across a field, I have been pleased with Steiner. The images are fairly crisp with good contrast. Granted, the image is not quite as good as the top-of-the-line, fantastically expensive brands. Nonetheless, Steiner makes very good equipment with strong emphasis of dependability. I have not used this specific model, but I have used other similar models.

One of the features of this model is the 8X magnification. The 8X magnification allows you to view objects well without the eyestrain associated with higher power magnification. If you have ever used a 10X, 12X or higher lenses, you will notice the image appears to be jumpy. This is due to involuntary muscle twitching. After awhile, you will suffer some eyestrain due to the image instability. You can either compensate by using a image stabilizing system (gyro, mount, or electronic) or use a lower magnification. Thus, the simple "GI-proof" method is to use 8X.

Overall, Steiners are rugged and handle rough treatment well. I have never had a pair fail. If I had the need for dependable rugged binoculars, I would definitely buy either this pair or any other pair of Steiner binoculars.

I bought this product after a long research. This is worth the price u pay.Steiner makes the finest binoculors in the world and put their very soul in it.8x magnification is more than enough for casual users.I have tried other binoculors but those are bit bulky and you don't get the calrity as the zoom power increases.
With 8x u can view a lots of good stuff.I am happy to own this Product. You also get good quality stuff form Zeiss too ! You can compare and buy based on ur needs.

It was cheaper in sunsetcamera.com

5.0 out of 5 stars Top quality binoculars., December 29, 2008

I did a lot of research and looked for recommendations all over the net and came away with these binoculars as my solution. No regrets at all. They have absolutely the clearest optics I have ever seen and the green tint really does enhance wildlife. If you will be using them in wooded areas then I don't think you can do better. The green tint may not be useful in the desert or arctic but for the Appalachians (where I live) these are great. The 8x30 is just the right amount of magnification. The unit is small and the rubberized surface makes it easy to grip. I haven't dropped them but I imagine they could take a moderate amount of abuse. The only monor complaint is that they weigh a lot for their size. I suppose the optics and ruggedness add a bit of weight so that's a necessary thing.

Overall, I highly recommend these binoculars and I'm sure almost anyone would be happy with them.
