Gripping story,
By SusieQ (New York) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Stella : One Woman's True Tale of Evil, Betrayal, and Survival in Hitler's Germany (Hardcover)
The power of this book comes from the pity one feels for Stella, despite that she is guilty of a thousand betrayals of her fellow Jews.
She was an ordinary person caught in an extraordinary circumstance. Might any one of us have behaved better? The author seems to understand this perfectly. I came away from this book with the feeling that Stella was as much a victim of Nazi Germany as any other Jew. It was Nazi Germany that created her; twisted her. Very powerful book & highly recommended. For the other side of the coin, I also recommend "When Courage was Stronger Than Fear".
