The Best Record Released in 2006,
By El DZ "dza" (Chicago, IL USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Stella (Audio CD)
Uzeda's STELLA is an amazing work of mathy, minimalistic, rhythmic, and sonic perfection. With STELLA, the Sicilian band created a record that, at times, borders on the otherworldly, featuring probably the best sounding drums in the history of recorded music. Giovanna Cacciola's wailing vocals augment propulsive polyrhythms created by the instrumentalists. Agostino Tilotta's guitar punctures the calculated cacophony with odd, scraping textures reminiscent of the sonic exploits of Uzeda's American friends Shellac. The heart of this record, though, clearly lies in the collections of hooks and crosses delivered with knockout precision by Raeffaele Gulisano on bass and Davide Oliveri on drums, who intertwine syncopation, purpose, and evil intent to create the foundation of the eight exercises comprising this masterpiece. STELLA is essential.
