1.0 out of 5 stars PLAGIAT
This is a plagiat from Franz Bardons book "Initiation into hermetics", almost down to pure sentences. He has even adopted Franz arrogant attitude.
This writer is hinting all the time about the worlds few initiatet masters, and hinting that he is one of them. Even if the Bardons books are more expensive, they are the "originals".

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW!, August 5, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Stellar Man (Hermetic Philosophy, Book 2) (Paperback)
Once in a while, a book comes a long which changes the lives of the people who read it. What John Baines has done, is to give us a glimpse of a profound acient way of seeing the universe as it is. With his myriad examples and explanations, he patiently communicates to the reader the "first step" of a system of knowledge that seems to have been kept alive on the earth for thousands of years. Though available to anyone, it can only be earned by one's own practical effort and merit. One gets the feeling of coming into contact with something alive, immense, universal, and real. Don't be mistaken- this book is an actual invitation into something that can only be experienced for oneself.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Blue Pill minus the new age sugar coating, October 7, 2005
By
IQHunk (Chennai, India) - See all my reviews
John Baines has a knack for giving us insights that initially shock us but later force us to ponder on them. In this work, he has revealed amazing secrets convincingly enough to destroy the foundations of all three Semitic faiths. The case of Hermetic wisdom has been presented with scientific logic than meandering long windedly like conventional Oriental philosophies.

Readers will learn about the 7 Keys of Hermeticism, each explained with several subtopics that one would have had to spend a lifetime for knowing in the ancient days. There is no arrogance, no idle humour, no "selling". Nearly every chapter has an invitation to think out for ourselves about the veracity of the fantastic insights.

The most convincing teaching is that of Living in the Present Moment. Only Janet Swerdlow in her work "Decoding your Life" has been as rational in the presentation of this teaching.

There are no tantrik mantras, no funny symbols, no voodoo dolls, no kinky Crowley sex-rituals, No Kaos Magick, no airy fairy "love is light" claptrap, no numerology, no Freemasonic conspiracies to rule the world, no Astral travel tickets, no Vortices of Atlantean Time Travel or Montauk, no CIA/FBI/Black Choppers, no UFOlogy, no Reptilian Shape Shifting and the only thing shocking is a few HP Lovecraftian characters presented logically without the Evil Dead make up.

The ordinary man who becomes a Stellar Man seems to be just as ordinary from the outside as Stanley Kubrick's hero in "2001 Space Odyssey", yet it is the ordinary and featureless space intitiate who transforms into a Star Child in that film. Baines' work could transform the ordinary man into a Stellar Man without the intermediate experience of the Star Child, though a teaching to mentally "create" this "spiritual child" is detailed.

I have read this book about 4 times in 3 years, taking care never to try and memorize any part of the text as that interferes with the teaching of living in the present moment. Every time I read it, some fresh revelation springs up as if it was magically rewritten. That is the proof of a genuine work. It always inspires new ideas in us depending on our evolutionary state.

I recommend this book to every student of psychology, philosophy and spirituality.

5.0 out of 5 stars A powerful key to self-mastery, February 28, 2006

All of the books by Baines are superb, this one just happens to be perhaps the best summing-up of his overall ideas and methods. He refers to his philosphy as "Hermetic", but in actuality it does not resemble traditional hermetics insofar as it is rather sparing in the utilization of symbols and symbolism; however, this in no way hinders the effectiveness of his presentation. I would describe his ideas as something of a cross between those of Gurdjieff/Ouspensky and Julius Evola - indeed a powerful combination! The underlying structure and manifestations of mental and spiritual slavery are exposed in an uncompromising assault, paving the way for their defeat and the possibility this opens for the emergence of the "Stellar Man", the pinnacle of human potential. I would suggest also purchasing "The Secret Science" as a primer for this more in-depth treatment, as well as "Hypsoconsciousness" for a practical methodology of implementing these initiatic concepts into daily life - a powerful trilogy that will rock your foundations!

This review is from: Stellar Man (Hermetic Philosophy, Book 2) (Paperback)
As a newcomer to Hermetics, I was excited to read Mr. Baines' book, and although it is very informative in many of the background precepts of this Secret Science, the basic principles of which are found in the Kybalion, I have to say this text is not for everyone.

To paraphrase the book's opening, this is not a new-agey, happy and simple path to follow; the book outlines a very high level of mental focus and spiritual training that not everyone would be able to even get half-way through, let alone to the level of an Initiate. If you're looking for a book that gives you things the sugar-coated path, look elsewhere...

5.0 out of 5 stars Are You Awake?, January 11, 2002
This review is from: Stellar Man (Hermetic Philosophy, Book 2) (Paperback)
Do you want to Awaken? If you want to experience genuine reality, and not the dance of delusion that many mistake for 'reality', this book holds the key.

In plain language, and without the usual New Age claptrap, Mr. Baines outlines the matter and method of Hermetic awakening and becoming a Stellar Man. It is both simple and profound, and with depths of insight that many writers wish they had.

If you feel a restlessness and urge to become more than what common society wants you to be, you will find this book, and its introductory companion "The Secret Science", a very helpful guide.

5.0 out of 5 stars Forthright writings on Hermeticism, August 15, 2011

If you have labored through some or all of the works of Gurdjieff, Ouspensky, Nicoll, Mouravieff and the like and are still scratching your head over statements like "man cannot DO anything," and wish someone would give it to you straight, you're going to be excited about discovering the works of John Baines (literary pseudonym of Dario Salas Sommer). According to Baines, "the time is right... (to) divulge the mystery of Jesus the Christ and the causes for the moral suffering of humanity." In the opening paragraph of "The Stellar Man," he gives you the straight scoop on the colossal mistakes that Moses made, resulting in "the most transcendental, but unfortunately harmful event in the occult history of humanity." Baines then sets out to clarify what the planet Earth really is, what is going on here, and how we can start helping ourselves.

If this particular path of self-learning is familiar to you, you are likely to be a person who does not blindly believe anything. At minimum this will greatly stretch your imagination and give you new possibilities to ponder. Strong religious believers are unlikely to make it through the first few chapters. Paradoxically, I found that it illumines what is published in the Christian Bible.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Matrix anyone?, June 2, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Stellar Man (Hermetic Philosophy, Book 2) (Paperback)
The illusion of true knowledge, the illusion of true freedom, people not living in the only true reality: the present moment.

WOW! This book is packed with words that blow your mind and also ring true at the same time. I'm still trying to organize all the information in my head so I can start to apply everything practically.

I KNEW there was something wrong with the world. The Matrix has most people!

5.0 out of 5 stars Hermeticism is not Mysticism, September 18, 2009
While living in Chile, I had the opportunity of attending, during a year, the then Monday evening discourses of this Hermetic Master, one of seven in the world at that time (1980s). Having been associated with esoteric - occult science for some years, I was not surprised but definitely impressed by the Master's presentations. I have read all his books, and heartily recommend this, The Stellar Man, to anyone who cares about important, personal questions related to their true Being. What impacted me the most during those discourses was how much the few hundred people in attendance actually laughed at many of the things the Master said, as if he was joking. He definitely was not. I recall one evening, he made this comment: "What makes you think that God is perfect?" Everyone was amused and some even laughed out loud, as if it was a joke. He could not have been more serious, and for an instant his serious eyes met mine and I knew that he knew that he had helped me to comprehend a powerful truth in a very few words! Get this book. Read it, reread it, study its content, and even translate it into your own words, if it helps to make the messages clearer. Meditate on its key points and you will eventually come to some very important clear truths about many esoteric-occult truths. Reading this book is only the first step. Go the full ten yards, and become the owner of His messages! Baraka Bashad...
