I'm surprised that one reviewer gave the product 1 star for the mere fact that they did not understand how this module works. When the RS1050 senses a "pulse" (ie the door locks) it triggers the remote start feature. In other words, if the door "lock" switch is pressed two times, the vehicle will remote start. This is very handy if you do not wish to carry multiple key fobs. The only downside to this setup (not really the fault of the RS1050) is that you are limited to the range of the factory keyless entry. Some factory systems allow the installation of an external antenna, but most do not.

I installed this unit on my 1997 Camry XLE with factory keyless entry/alarm. Depending on your vehicle year, you will need to either a: affix a spare key to the top of the ignition or b: purchase the alarm/security bypass module. If you have an older vehicle without the "chip key" there is no need to buy that box.

Installation was fairly straight-forward. This isn't for the amature installer, but any basic knowledge of car electronics would be suffice.

As the other reviewer mentioned, they were un-happy with the ability to "start" the vehicle with the interior door lock switch. While this may be true with some vehicles, most Toyota and modern vehicles "disable" the interior switch when the factory alarm is activated. This is in-place to discourage a thief's ability to unlock a vehicle.

Note: If this unit is installed on a Ford/Lincoln/Mercury or Nissan vehicle with the external keypad entry, pressing the 7-8 and 9-0 buttons [twice] simultaneously will trigger the remote start as this button combination locks the vehicle.

Purchased this unit and installed, was deffective out of the box. Exchanged for a different unit and it somewhat worked. The main problem is that the interior door lock switches will also actuate the unit. Your kids could be in the car messing around and the car could start after three taps of the power unlock... Not good! Great idea in concept. If some issues were addressed it could be a nice unit. I like the idea of not having to have a seperate remote for the car starter.
