Book Description

October 2004
The return of Teddy London. In "The Things That Are Not There", private detective Theodore London was battered almost to death by forces from beyond. Now, on his first day out of his recovery bed he discovers that there is a new evil afoot in New York City. While he's been incapacitated, a coven of vampires has set forces in motion so that they might come forth from the shadows and begin their march toward world domination. Worse yet, London learns that he may have more in common with such forces than he thinks. Armed with only a .38 named Betty and a blade named Veronica, Teddy London gathers those few souls capable of weathering the terror ahead. In this second adventure, London and those who stand with him face both power and temptations not only unimaginable, but unbearable as well.

"The Stench of Fresh Air" is the new title of the former "Some Things Never Die." Same story, in which Teddy London struggles to recover physically, mentally, and as it turns out, psychic-ly, from injuries sustained from the events in "The Things That Are Not There" - he saved the world and universe from a trans-dimensional horror, but in doing so killed over a million people, who constantly scream in pain and horror in Teddy's mind.
On his first day back in his office, he is approached by Mrs. Lu, a little old Chinese lady, who wants to hire "the Destroyer" to hunt down and kill the vampires she believes killed her son (torn into tiny pieces and bits left all over New York's Chinatown). After Teddy scoffs at her and declares his general disbelief in such things as "vampires", the lady leaves, leaving an ancient carved ivory box on his desk containing a small fortune in jewels. After experiencing several trances in which he recovers "memories" of his life as viewed from outside his personal perspective, and after discovering that Mrs. Lu was killed shortly after leaving his office in the same way her son was, Teddy decides to take the case.

I was happy to see that the Teddy London series was available for the Kindle - my paperback versions have long since disintegrated. That said, the formatting and editing of the Kindle version that I received of this book is the poorest I've seen. First off, the version I got via WhisperNet had a gap between *every* paragraph - not conducive to easy reading. Second - it's like they subcontracted the work to someone for whom English was a second language - misspellings, grammatical errors, punctuation problems, and odd contraction "corrections" (someone with a Southern accent saying "you'all" instead of "y'all"). In multiple places proper names weren't even capitalized.
I ended up re-formatting my copy to correct these issues for my own personal use, but it took several hours and some enjoyment out of actually *reading* the book.
