Stencil 101 Décor: Customize Walls, Floors, and Furniture with Oversized Stencil Art

I just received my stencils and I can't wait to use them. Before buying the book I tried to find a list of all the stencils included, but couldn't...so here's the list:

1- houndstooth
2- butterflies
3- polka dots
4- honeycomb hexagons
5- chain links (interlocking ovals)
6- birds on a wire
7- lattice (interlocking squares)
8- 3-d effect "stair steps"
9- moroccan petals
10- quatrefoil

The only complaint I have is that the "book" is really just a few pages stuck onto the box that holds the stencils, and the box flaps all interlock over them to close. Neat looking to be sure, but its a little awkward to use. I wish they had just included a separate little book.

I was hoping for more of an idea book - with pictures of possibilities / color combinations / other stencil ideas you can cut yourself. Instead it's a lovely presentation of a few basic stencils and limited instruction. I'm not disappointed with what IS included, just with a title of "Stencil 101 Decor" I thought it would be a more comprehensive introduction to large pattern stenciling.

I LOVE these stencils. They are so great. There are so many ways you can utilize them. I used them on walls, doors, and even clothing. The stencil material is very durable and the registration holes make it super easy to get your design perfect.

I must admit, I do wish there were more stencils included, but for the size of these, and the price, you cannot beat it! I love the assortment, and cannot wait to use them! Highly recommend!

I already did a wall in my bathroom and it looks great. I even have the "nonflat surface" and it still looks good. It is a lot of work though. Marking out the pattern before I started was a lot of work and I found that the triangles used to line up the pattern wouldn't match up sometimes. It didn't affect the pattern too badly though. Using a level each time I used the stencil seemed to help. Overall it is a great product. It is a lot of work just to do one small wall and the painting took me a couple of days (one full day if i did it from morning until night).It was worth the work since I have a unique and fun bathroom now.

I was really excited to get this book. I have not used it yet but I browsed through it and looked at the stencils. The only reason I gave it 4/5 was because I feel it should have come with more idea pages in it. Very informative on what medium you were going to stencil on and the tools that were needed. I went to [...] and there were more ideas and a video on how to stencil a wall and it really helped so since there is that reference I give it really 4.59/5. Very cool stencils. Can't wait to do a wall in them. Hope this helped. This will probably way easier than trying to do wallpaper and you can reuse the stencils over and over again.

I bought this book after I saw it on a different website. But of course amazon had it for less. I'm extremely happy with my purchase. The book comes with several stencils to choose from. I picked the round diamond looking one. Depending on how big of a space you're working with its not a long process. I would say the hard part is the actual laying out of the stencils. You can free hand it but that's ideal for a small wall. Over all it took me under two hours to layout the stencil and then paint it. I'm very happy with the end result. If you're looking for a fun way to update a room this is a great way to go.

I'm rating this before I even get it because of the awesome photos in the Winter 2010 Better Homes and Gardens "Do It Yourself" magazine. They utilize two of these stencils in an amazing featured room that serves as a sewing/craft room and a guest room. I fell in love with the tone on tone hexagon stencil! (No, I don't work for BHG and I won't receive anything for plugging this magazine.......I just love it, that's all!) The picture of one wall is on the cover of the mag.....just beautiful!
