I purchased this climber for my 21 month old Son. He LOVES it!!! He gets a big kick out of climbing up and sliding down. It seems to fascinate him that he can climb up the steps in the back or either of the rock climbing walls. I love it too, because when it's nice outside, he can climb on this- and not on everything in the house. lol I would highly reccomend this to anyone- especially for those active toddlers. But stay within arm's reach of the small kids! I looked into all of the climbers with slides, and I especially like this one because it has a nice sized platform that the kids can play on. If you look carefully, not all of them are that way, in fact... it can be pretty easy for falls to happen on the others because if the kids take one step back- they fall off. Notice on this one, the opening for the stairs does NOT line up with the slide, which I think is much safer.

When I was shopping around for a climber/slide combo for my two year old son, all I wanted to know was, "Can I put this together by myself?"
My husband is currently in Iraq and I'm a nightmare when it comes to tools, so I had to choose wisely. This ended up being a great choice. All the pieces snap together fairly easily and I didn't need to bother any of the neighbors for help. It's not stated in the directions, but I did use a rubber mallet to make the connections tighter and that made all the difference in the world. I did not pre-drill the holes for the four screws as others here have. However, had I known about that little tip, I would have. Thirty minutes after I received this delivery, I had it set up and my son was playing on it. Perfect! [...]

We just brought home this climber. My 18 month old loves it. It took my husband 20 minutes to set up. He says it was really easy only 4 screws. Everything else snapped in place. My son kept climbing up and sliding down for hours. He can also "rock climb" one side. I like the fact that the other "rock climb" side is more challenging so he can grow into the toy. It also looks like a fort and has a steering wheel so he can pretend play later. Also, this toy is compact which saves space in our basement. Excellent toy!

The Naturally Playful line of products by Step 2 is wonderful! I've purchased every piece in this line. The Woodland Climber is very easy to put together. The pieces snap together, and there are only 4 screws to put in. I assembled it myself, and then had my husband put the screws in. It's a sturdy piece of equipment too! My 2 year old and my 6 year old both love it! They spend a lot of time on it together....climbing, sliding, make-believe play, etc. The best part is that it blends well with our desert backyard landscaping. I'd highly recommend any Step 2 product. They really withstand the test of time!

I looked at lots of climbers and finally decided to go with the woodland climber. My son loves it! It was extremely easy to put together even without instructions. Pieces snap in to place with a little force and you're ready to play in no time. It's compact enough that we have ours in the den for the winter yet it still has plenty for my son to do. I put balls in the space beneath for added fun. The best thing about this climber is that my son, who is only 12 months (early walker and climber), can play on it now. I have to help him slide but he has a blast climbing the ladder, turning the wheel, and playing in the balls. The two climbing walls will be great as he grows and will keep him from getting bored with it. It's little kid friendly so little ones can play with help but offers enough of a challenge for older children to enjoy as well. I do think 8 may be stretching it on the age range though. The platform does bow a bit but I agree with other reviewer that this is not a problem and it held me just fine. This is a great climber for the money and one that will grow with your child.

When we moved into our house there was a metal swing set already here. Perfect for the kids swings but the slide was anything but sturdy and safe so we removed it. Not quite ready for the big wooden structures we wanted to find a fun but safe slide for our 3yr old and 18mo old. This is perfect!!!
My husband got it from the box to my kids climbing on it in less than 10 minutes (simple if you look at the directions). It basically snaps together then has 4 screws for extra stability. He just used the power drill for the screws and did not need to predrill holes. The tower is the perfect size for 2 or 3 kids. There is enough room that they aren't pushing each other out of the way to get down the slide but it isn't so big that I would have to climb into it to get them out (quite important being 5mo pregnant). My 3 yr old was up and over the rock wall in moments and my 18mo old had no problems with the ladder and went straight to the slide. I love that there are no openings directly behind the slide to help stop the stepping back off the platform that I was afraid of when I looked at most units. They both found the fort underneath to be really cool and my 3yr old wanted to get his blankie to have a camp out under there. The colors are also much nicer to look at in the middle of the backyard than the bright primaries that a lot of the units are.

I just purchased this Climber last week, and my son just loves bouncing on it and turning the wheel. I did alot of research on different climbers because my son is VERY tall (38" and not yet 2 years old) and he has no problems with the stairs or the length of the slide (some slides are just too short for his long legs). I am sure he will use the rock climbing walls once he figures out what they are for. The space underneath is great for storing balls and trucks that are always left outside. The colors are neutral so they will go well with anything. I thought I would need my husbands help in putting it together, but I finished it in about 10 minutes. The instructions are pictures and no words, but it was very easy to assemble. Great product!!!!

I debated over which toy to buy for small backyard that would be fun for both my 2 year old and 5 year old sons without buying a swingset. I found it in the Woodland Climber. From the moment I set it up myself (w/out my husband's help and in about 20 minutes time) my sons have not stopped playing on it. They love to play on the platform and pretend they are going on adventures while "driving" the steering wheel, they "camp out" underneath with their toys and my 5 year old loves the rock wall (my 2 year old hasn't mastered that yet). I find it to be the perfect toy to keep them both happy. The price was a bit high, but I know we'll get years out of this so it was worth it.

Even though the toy is recommended for 2-5 years of age we decided to purchase this toy for our one year old's birthday. I have been taking him to the park and he has shown a growing interest in the slides. We figured he would grow into it but WOW! The minute my husband got it up he was climbing all over it and got right up the step ladder with no problems! He absolutely lowes it!! He goes down the slide and climbs right back up. The toy is very sturdy (I was able to climb onto the platform and I am currently 140 lbs.) which was one of my concerns when buying a slide for our son. The assembly on the toy was so easy! It took about 10 mins and only required 4 screws to secure it. You can't go wrong with this toy. My husband loved the fact it was so easy to put together and my son loves the slide and climbing into it and under it. Your child will get years of enjoyment. Highly recommended!!

I bought this climber for my 13-month old girl 4 days ago on April 3, 2004 from Toys R Us (on sale for $199.99 Canadian dollars). We're expecting another baby this June so I need something to keep her occupied. I thought it'd take her a while to figure out the climber but she's able to climb the ladder on the second try and climb back up the slide on the fifth try. She's now at 30 inches and 23 lb. (70 percentile for girls).
Of course she's still too small to climb up the rock walls on either side of the slide. Other than that she loves every part of the set. The set is not too big so I actually have it in my master room. I'm just amazed how detailed this set is. The "stone" wall and the "wood" deck are very detailed and realistic. This definitely look better than many other cheap plastic-looking sets I came across. My 7-year-old nephew also loves the set. It's a bit small for him but now they finally have something they both can enjoy together. Almost decided to get the Jungle Climber but too easy for toddlers to fall off, also it doesn't look as attractive in the store as on the internet. This Woodland Climber is definitely a good buy. I'm sure with another baby coming, we'll get many more years of good use from this climber set. Additional note: Hi! I'm adding to the above review , just to let everyone know that 7 months later I'm still very happy with this climber set. And my now 20-month-old daughter still plays on this set almost everyday. All our little visitors love it too. I haven't seem any other product with a better quality slide than this one offers (fast, smooth yet safe). If you can afford it, by all means get this set. Or do what I did--- watch closely to every single Toys R Us flyers for sales, or check the website here. They often have big discount on selected items. I hope soon they'll have this one on sale again so your children can enjoy this woodland climber, too! |
