This review is from: Step Back from the Baggage Claim (Paperback)
Step Back From the Baggage Claim is a must-read, not just for air travelers, but for all of us as we journey through life. Jason Barger employs stories, quotes and accounts of experiences to put forth simple truths and easy tips for making our lives better. By applying just a few easy responses to stressful situations, we can put ourselves in a better place.
SBFTBC starts a little slow, but quickly grows into a charming little read. It is an easy read, only about 120 pages, and will leave you feeling better than when you began. Most readers will want to re-examine how they live their lives and serve others. WARNING: You will want to buy copies to hand out to friends!

5.0 out of 5 stars Step back and enjoy the self discovery!, January 21, 2009

This review is from: Step Back from the Baggage Claim (Paperback)
This author has passed on a gift to create more love and meaning into one's life. It reminds us to step back, reflect, enjoy and transform. Jason has accepted a wonderful job from God. It's called his purpose. And, he shares his calling in this book. I, too, had a family member endure the battle of cancer. And, in that pain of loss, I discovered my spirit. My consciousness to find meaning in everyday life. I smiled through your book, Jason. You invite your readers to change their lives.
I read your book in the skies, it's a quick read. And, it had me thinking about all the times that I have stepped back from the "Baggage claim" of life and benefitted from making a connection to another human being.
Here's my Refrigerator Man! When you find out when someone in your family has cancer. You find out that everyone has a sister, father, mother, brother experiencing the same situation. One day while flying, I was saying good-bye to my passengers. I noticed this lady, wearing a scarf, slowly making her way up the aisle. Her Chemo had taken a toll on her. Tears swelled in my eyes as I said to her, "My Mom has cancer too." She reached over and gave me a hug. I embraced her. She whispered in my ear, "I hope she makes it." For a moment, I allowed her to feel whole, a woman, a caregiver. Amazing, here she was giving me comfort. As she walked away, I whispered to God, "Bless her." What a powerful MOMENT in my life. From time to time, I think of her and thank her for that connection.
Thank you for reminding me to find meaning in EVERY MOMENT by living it with consciousness.

5.0 out of 5 stars Changing the lens in which we view the world, January 19, 2009
By
This review is from: Step Back from the Baggage Claim (Paperback)
This book not only inspired me to look at my behavior in airports but it also had a big impact on the lens for which I view the world. Barger does a wonderful job of articulating his message in a clear and simple manner. By slowing down each day and looking at how we interact with each other, we can change the world... interaction by interaction. A wonderful book and a must read if you are looking to make a difference.

4.0 out of 5 stars Three steps is all it takes., December 21, 2009

This review is from: Step Back from the Baggage Claim (Paperback)
I was introduced to this book through a YouTube video - [...]and was impressed enough to order.
Through a handful of events in the author's life he tells how easy it can be to change how we look at things in our lives - delays, obstacles, even cancellations - by stepping back and looking at situations differently. This is a book that's meant to be read and passed on; there's even a book tracking page at the back and on the website. This short, double-spaced book brings to mind the "pass it forward" Liberty Mutual commercials. Jason Barger, the book's author, asks us to Travel Gracefully - and I found it's not that hard.

5.0 out of 5 stars Following this simple book could change the way we live., January 17, 2009
This review is from: Step Back from the Baggage Claim (Paperback)
I retired in June from the principalship of a large high school. Step Back From the Baggage Claim helped me to slow down the pace of my life. I have learned to drop my bucket where I am and to enjoy each daily catch. I recently spent twelve hours, not by choice, in the Baltimore airport. I watched others though Jason's eyes and actually left refreshed. I don't want to give my book away because I intend to re-read it several times. I have, however, bought four books for other people.

5.0 out of 5 stars Step Back from The Baggage Claim, January 12, 2009
This review is from: Step Back from the Baggage Claim (Paperback)
This book offers a necessary reminder to people of all ages to step back; to think critically about how we live our lives and how we treat others. Barger's use of the airport as a metaphor for life is genius--who hasn't rushed through the airport in a flurry of stress and self-care, oblivious to those around you? Barger's humor and ability to weave in and out of poigniant stories will keep you turning pages and the message will stick with you from the baggage claim to the office to your home life. I finished the book in one delicious gulp!

Imagine your life. The peace, the quiet, the regularity. Now imagine packing your bags, and kissing your wife and kids goodbye to go live in the airports just to learn about the impact that can be had along our journeys. Well, this is exactly what Jason did. And his book "Step Back from the Baggage Claim" is the inspirational tale of how we all can travel gracefully along our paths in life.

This is a great book. The author clearly and simply lived the change he wants to see in the world....and then he wrote about it. Take the time to read it and digest it. When you're done, give it to a friend (or stranger). OneLove.

5.0 out of 5 stars A definite read and pass on!, November 14, 2008
This review is from: Step Back from the Baggage Claim (Paperback)
A humorous, gentle reminder to step back daily. Barger used the baggage claim hustle as a metaphor for what we miss in our day to day travel. I read the entire book while waiting on a 3 hour line to vote in our national election, laughing aloud and living the baggage claim experience.

If you find yourself quoting from Illusions by Richard Bach or The Way of the Peaceful Warrior by Dan Millman add Barger and Step Back...to your resources.
