Grade 3-6 An excellent basic book of microwave cooking. The recipes are simple ones that are also useful. Some recipes are for adapting convenience foods to the microwave. The first chapter gives very clear safety instructions as well as the basic use of a microwave. The other microwave cookbook for children, Better Homes & Gardens Microwave Cooking for Kids (Better Homes & Gardens, 1984) is more complete, and the recipes are more complex, but the Step-by-Step. . . has large and clear print that is easier to read, and the larger size of the book helps the pages to stay open on a countertop more easily than the paperback. Both are good choices and complement each other, but the Step-by-Step. . . is the simpler and will give confidence to beginning microwave cooks. Barbara A.
