5.0 out of 5 stars Their best album!!!!!!!
I still think that "Step By Step" was their best album! All of the songs were good and a step higher than "Hangin' Tough," Most of the first half I still like and Donnie's reggae turn on "Stay With Me Baby" was fun. But I still love "Funny Feeling" and I still wonder why it wasn't a single. At the time, I think that some people...

3.0 out of 5 stars This is where they go downhill...
I was a huge NKOTB fan and still LOVE their earlier albums. This album to me signaled their decline. Their music was a bit blah. Other than track one and four, none of them were very memorable to me. Joey also hit puberty and lost his sweet voice. I guess we all grow out of something!

At the time, I think that some people were getting a little tired of New Kids on the radio and TV, so they moved on to other artists during early '91. But this album stayed strong for about a year even though it didn't have a lot of hits or singles from it. I still love "Step By Step"--still sing along to it even today. If I see the CD again in stores, new or used CD section, I would definitely buy it! I like the use of strings playing on the album and that they co-produced the album along with Maurice Starr. Starr's music was kind of slipping a bit during 1990, so having the New Kids involved on this album just brought new things and ideas to it. This group did mature on this album as well as the later 1994 album "Face The Music" and it shows on all the songs. Most of the New Kids fans were teens, but I was 20 when I heard this album, and I felt that they proved themselves in the pop music scene in 1990.

5.0 out of 5 stars Talk about a flashback, March 29, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Step By Step (Audio CD)
I was with my best friend and her boyfriend this past weekend and her boyfriend put this CD in their player. It brought back a flood of memories. During step by step we still knew who sang what step and the words to it. I remember I went to see them on July 14, 1990 it was raining and I was on a hillside I fell and broke my ankle and I cried so hard because I didnt get to see "my donnie" and I was on crutches for the rest of the summer. But I did end up getting to see them that November. Because of my parents telling my story they moved us 6 rows back from the stage.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'll Be Loving New Kids (Forever), April 26, 2000

I remember owning this album when I was 5 years old, and for a five year old I didn't really know that much on music, so I taped it over. But now I'm 15 and I SHOULD be loving the BSB or 'N Sync, but NOPE! I've still kept a place for the new kids. Eventhough HANGIN' TOUGH was the greatest album they've ever made, Step by Step has many hit singles that I'm sure many BSB and 'N Sync fans can still remember, maybe not clearly but enough. "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" "TONIGHT" "FUNNY FEELING" "LET'S TRY IT AGAIN" "BABY, I BELIEVE IN YOU" "CALL IT WHAT YOU WANT" and the still very popular pop anthem "STEP BY STEP." If I was to suggest the greatest pop album, BESIDES FROM THE GREAT HANGIN' TOUGH, it would definitly be STEP BY STEP by the unforgettable boy band THE NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK!

I played this CD the other day and was amazed that after all these years, it still appealed to me. Wow! In their heyday the boys were magic and this album shows why.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hard Core fans will love this album, August 23, 1998
This review is from: Step By Step (Audio CD)
As a Hard core fan of the New Kids on the Block, I really liked this album. I throughly enjoyed the singles "Step by Step", "Where do we go from here" and "Games". Even though a few of the songs here didn't match the sweet, innocent rock/rap that Hangin' Tuff gave me, such as "Stay wit me Baby" I found it hard to be dissapointed. As a black female I was probably in the minority of who this group was targarting anyway. Still, I LOVED this group and still listen to their music on occasion. They will always have a place in my heart which has no room for N'Sync, Hanson or Backstreet Boys. Even though I enjoy their music, NKOTB will always have a place there. While their last Album "Face the Music" didn't do so well, we all can't expect to last forever. The fans (such as me) started out with them and grew up with them. They were forced to change as the times did. "Step by Step" was great for it's time. I think it's a keeper.

5.0 out of 5 stars It brought back memories, November 11, 1999
By A Customer

I was bored the other day so I took out all my old tapes to listen to. NKOTB brought back this huge flood of memories from when I was younger. It's such a good CD to listen to to put you in a good mood. All I can say is it reminds me of being in elementary school and liking Joey McIntyre. LOL.

I think this will always be my favourite of theirs, I got it first when I was 12 & I still listen to it now over 8 years later. Funny Feeling & Never Gonna Fall In Love Again are the best tracks

5.0 out of 5 stars Even mothers of ex-fans dig this group!, November 21, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Step By Step (Audio CD)
I had no choice, but to listen to NKOTB when my daughter was 7 years old and crazy about them. Their music took me back to the days of The Jackson 5 and The Osmonds. I'm not ashamed (anymore) to admit, as manufactured as they are, that New Kids rock! I also, highly recommend their video "Step by Step". It's great. In fact, I think I'm going to go watch it right now!! -A 31 year old fan
