It's practically indisputable that Step By Step was New Kids on the Block's greatest hit of all time. It's my favorite NKOTB song, and frankly, it's my favorite song of all time. I love the vocals, I love the instrumentals, and I love the music video that the New Kids made out of this song. This particular item is the CD version of the Step By Step single, and it contains the following tracks-

1. Step By Step (12" Club Remix) 5:25
2. Step By Step (7" Version) 4:27
3. Step By Step (Instrumental) 4:21
4. Valentine Girl 3:57

As far as the 12" Club Remix goes, it's actually kind of good. It's not simply overlaid with a heavier drum beat and then stretched a little longer. The instrumentals ARE slightly different, and the lyrics- while they remain the same, are arranged differently. The only other place this remix is currently available is in the 2008 New Kids on the Block Megamix, which only contains sections from this track. On this CD, it's full and complete, and I think it's better than the C&C Vocal Club Mix.

The 7" Version is simply the normal version of the song. But for those who love just the music in Step By Step (and especially those who know that karaoke's of old songs typically suck), the Instrumental track is a God-sent! It has none of the vocals at all, and allows the original music to shine in all its glory. I love it, and I listen to it more than any other track on the CD! I hate it that you can't download it, but I'm still thrilled that I could obtain one of the few copies of this CD lying around on the internet.

Valentine Girl... Is just that. It's just the normal version of Valentine Girl, and it happens to be on the CD. I won't say much about it since this review is supposed to be about Step By Step, but in short, I think it's a really sweet song, and it deserves to be listened to. All in all, though this has long since been out of print, I encourage all fans of NKOTB and their hit song Step By Step to get a copy of this CD. If for no other reason, get it for the instrumental track. You might want to sing along to it yourself, you might want it to play at a dance party, or you may just want to enjoy the music all on its own. I know I do.

I don't know if this means that this Amazon listing isn't also a maxi-single, or even if the LP version is just the normal version of the song. I'll have to buy that one eventually, and I'll probably add info from that one to this review in the future. But if you want the CD I'm reviewing, then it will have the track listing at the top. Also, make sure that when you buy this that you're buying a CD, and not a cassette tape or Vinyl Long-Playing record. This single was released during the LP and cassette era, and you don't want to make a mistake by buying it in an incompatible media playing format.
