Step into it!,

This review is from: Step One (Audio CD)
I heard about this group from a Brit friend of mine and during a visit to London last week, bought this CD. What fun stuff! After the first liten, I thought "hmmm, a little cheesy", but then I listened again and found the groove. This is truly good clean dancey kind of pop. The uptempo numbers are wonderfully uplifting and the slower love songs are truly good. Written and produced mostly by 2/3 of the old Stock/Aitken/Waterman production team (remember Kylie, Rick Astley and Dead or Alive?) now down to just Stock and Waterman, along with various others, this is definitely British dance pop. Steps is MASSIVE in the UK and recently opened for Britney on her US tour. What you may not know is that every single released by this group has "steps" that one does on the dance floor with instructions included in every single in the UK. To be at a club in London and EVERYONE is doing the "steps" during the choruses was truly a sight to see. While the two gentlemen in the group do take a lead vocal here and there (at least on the UK release I have, which has more songs on it then the US release), the ladies in this group CAN ACTUALLY SING, and very well I might add. Powerful voices in front of some pretty bubbly pop. Again, as I've said in my other reviews here on Amazon, what is it about European pop with the different/amazingly catchy type of melodies and chord progressions? These great melodies and progressions can be found here as well. "Better Best Forgotten", "Last Thing on My Mind", "One for Sorrow", "5,6,7,8" and "Heartbeat" are THE standout tracks, but there isn't a bad tune on the whole disk. Make no mistake, this is PURE POP music, and you can be certain that I (I'm 38 years old) will be steppin' to this group. Just wait until their second album (Steptacular....yes STEPtacular, not a typo) is released here in the US, in which there is definite growth shown. But this is STEP ONE on what should be a pretty good career.......GET THIS CD!

Dance, Sing and Cry with Steps,
By Jose Angel (Miami, FL) - See all my reviews

If you like Britney, Christina, NSync, or the BSBs, you're going to love Steps. This English Quintent has conquered the world and are on the verge of doing the same in the United States. I first noticed Steps while visiting Singapore, and I fell in love with their music immediately. The girls (Claire, Faye, and Lisa) are gorgeous and extremely talented. The two guys (Lee and H) complement the girls very nicely. I foresee Steps outselling the Spice Girls in America, but in contrast to the Spice Girls, Steps will be around for a very long time. Buy "Step One", then order "Steptacular" (the British version) and "Step One" (the Japanese version) from Amazon. With these three CDs you will get about 30 songs that will make you dance, sing, and cry all at once. To sum it up, Steps is all about Dance music with very deep lyrics. If you have a romantic heart and a wild side, Step One is for you.

This album is awesome. I saw Steps on the Disney channel and right away went out and bought it. It is great dance music. Once you've listened to it you will want to go out and buy it also. It's not just for teenagers. I'm 23 and I love this group.

Steps to the Stars,

I got this CD about 2 weeks ago when it was finally debuted in the US. Steps is hugely famous in the UK and now I can see why! This album is so awesome. It's all upbeat songs, some about love, some about sorrow, and even an old Bee Gee favorite that they beautifully remake. I really enjoyed this album! If you like N'SYNC and Brittany Spears, you'll love Steps!

I love it!,

Months ago I bought the single for "One for Sorrow" without even knowing anything about the song or Steps. It was 2 dollars and it looked like the stuff that I listen to so I thought "Why not?". I LOVED it! But I didn't buy their full CD when it came out until yesterday. I had recently watched Steps' concert special on The Disney Channel and just couldn't get those catchy songs out of my mind! Steps is so full of energy, they're songs are clean and fun and they make you feel great! I hope they hit it big here in the US! I'm sure they will!

..(can you please REPLACE the last paragraph of my review from 9 Mar 00 with the below paragraphs?....PLEASE? I hadn't listened to all of the CDs I bought in London and I just got to the 2 Steps CD I bought and realized that my review was misleading and inaccurate......please read what I'd like to change below THANKS SO MUCH!)What's really interesting is that for release here in the US (a la Robbie Williams) , this CD is a compilation of Steps' first TWO massive albums released in the UK . "Better Best Forgotten", "Last Thing on My Mind", "One for Sorrow", "5,6,7,8" and "Heartbeat" are THE standout tracks, but there isn't a bad tune on the whole disk. Interesting as well that this album is TITLED with their first album title but uses the cover art from their second, "Steptacular" (yes...STEPtacular...not a typo). What is it, once again, about European pop melodies that are really so different than American produced pop melodies? This is some really catchy/hooky stuff here that will have you humming right along. Make no mistake, this is PURE POP music, and you can be certain that I (I'm 38 years old) will be steppin' to this group. But this is STEP ONE on what should be a pretty good career.......GET THIS CD!

STEPTACULAR,
By Paule (UK) - See all my reviews

Here in the UK STEPS are a huge success. After their first album, Step One they released this album STEPTACULAR. Though their music and dance routines are what they are famous for STEPS are continuously changing the colour schemes of their look. Since here in England Deeper Shade of Blue (track number 7 on the album) is to be released in April as a single Blue is the new colour. Steps however makes anyone feel far from blue and Claire, H, Lisa, Faye and Lee make me feel far from blue. This album is fun fabulous! A must buy!

Bee Gees Tribute,
This review is from: Step One (Audio CD)
The song Tragedy was on a Bee Gees tribute album, and is a very good cover of the Bee Gees # 1 hit from 1979. It as good as it was back then.

Best New Album Of The Year!,
By Dean (Kent, WA USA) - See all my reviews

Ladies and gentlemen! I have the UK Album from Steps and I must say it was good, but the US Album will be better. I remember the days of Abba how the US people loved their music. Well, it looks like Abba II is back in the life of their talented young performers. Buy the album and see what you think, but look for them at the awards later in the year only then will we say "told you so"!
