A unique look at this genre,
By
This review is from: Step Outside Yourself (Audio CD)
This is a very energetic album. On the face of it "Step Outside Yourself" comes off as a very good Emo/Punk Pop/Post Hardcore album. However the band mixes its own brand of musical gymnastics with the contemporary sound, creating a much more dynamic set of tracks. At times, the tricks fall flat. The weaker moments are far between, however, and the overall result is fresh path through the genre.
"Step Outside Yourself" was my introduction to Over It, and I was impressed. Like the average reader, I don't really care how this album stacks up to the band's previous albums. On it's own, "Step Outside Yourself" is a rousing album with a hard edge that really invokes the band's unique personality. If you like what you hear in the song previews, and you aren't afraid of the occasional musical surprise, give this band a chance.

(Jared here, Brenda's son...)
Simply phenomenal-fantastic! A great improvement-the lyrics are great, and actually understandable, the songs don't all have the same drumbeat! Best songs are tracks 13, 9, 8, and 1. Includes an awesome Siren on the 101 redo, better than the original! Definitely worth your money! I was originally introduced to this band when LEGO released a longer version of Gunslinger (track 2) than that on the album...strange...

Over It - Step Outside Yourself,

Stolen from another site and I agree with it to the T.
"The best way to describe Over It's major label debut Step Outside Yourself is as a giant coming out party for everyone involved. The vocals are strong and impressive, the lyrics are poignant and refreshing, the guitars are predominately displayed, the bass is powerful, the drums blistering, and the production flawless. Every single aspect of this album is a step above everyone's past work and in reaching this new plateau the album sits a step above their peers as well. The time is ripe, the stage is set, and the curtains drawn. If there was ever a time when the phrase "the next big thing" was perfectly fitting - that time would be now."
