5.0 out of 5 stars This One's a Keeper!, June 14, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Step Salsation [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I rid my video cupboard regularly of boring, uninspiring exercise tapes, but "Step Salsation" will never find that fate! It is one of the most fun and challenging workouts I've done in years! This video's biggest merit is the way it combines everything: exercise, dance, and an uplifting "feel-good" quality. "Step Salsation" is a very thorough heart-pumping workout for steppers who like a dance "flavor", but are not interested in following intense or highly complex dance routines. Hugo Diez's choreography is definitely Latin and lively, but doesn't exclude the person who has never cha-cha-ed or mambo-ed (me!). He takes one through dance moves integrated with standard stepping using adequate cueing, and really good music. I found the routines kept me challenged and kept my energy level at a maximum throughout. He does a short (5 min.) warm-up, a 45-50 minute workout and a very short standing cool down. Finally, I'm putting this challenge out: try to do this workout without smiling .... I don't think you can! Having come from my last step tape experience: "Reebok The Video" (which made me feel like I was in "step prison") - Diez's beaming charm and personality turned my living room into a dance floor in Buenos Aires!

4.0 out of 5 stars This is going to be a great one!!, November 28, 2000

This is very different from most step tapes, but I'm a pretty experienced stepper and it took me a lot of stopping and rewinding to get some of the routines down. Once you get it down though, you're in for a lot of fun. Hugo is great!

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money, December 23, 2006

If you are already doing step and aerobic workouts you will HATE this tape. It is mostly a beginner's step routine. The instructor seems to think that shaking your hips a couple of times constitutes latin dancing, which, needless to say, it does not. The music is decent, but it is much less aggravating to buy oneself a good CD so one doesn't need a VCR to listen to it. I thought this tape was such a waste of money that I sent it back for a refund. And I have never done that before.
