Step up to this!,

This CD is pure Newsboys style. Any Newsboys fan could tell you, if you turned on your radio to any good christian station, and you heard one of the songs off this CD, even if you had never heard it before, you would know it was the Newsboys. They have a totally unique style, I've never heard it in any other band. Their music isn't rock AND pop, its both,so mixed together that it really become's its own genre. All that to say that this CD probably is their best one yet. Only for true Newsboys fans. In this CD they stay 100% true to their "it could only be the Newsboys" style. Don't be a wimp and shy away from buying this CD without listning to it first. Who knows? Someone like moi, could take the last one.:)

SHOULD BE TALKED ABOUT AS THE CHRISTIAN MUSIC STANDARD!!!,

Just how did i become such a Chrisitan rock fanatic. Don't get me wrong, I was raised in a Christian home, but this is the CD that started it all. Honestly, I heard "Entertaining Angels" on a WOW & really liked it. Being the little kid I was, I bought the CD, but my dad, not a Christain music fanatic at the time, thought it wasn't the best decision. But looking back at my collection, and all of the Newsboys, I can surely say, I think I made the right decision. If you're new to Christian music, get this or Thrive, the Newsboys' latest release. If you are a veteran of Christian music & don't have this CD, I would quickly move that little pointer over to the "Buy This" button. Now, which should be the first purchase that new Chrisitan music listeners purchase, this, or Thrive. I would personally say, let me talk about this a little bit more. "...Microphone," even though the Newsboys were a manstream band at the time, sounds like it was made in lead singer Peter Furler's garage. "Thrive," however is perfectly procduced, and you can easily tell that all 10 of the songs were spent a looong time on. This is a mix of soft rock, and CCM-type-stuff. Or really calm. Thrive never really slows down, but never really gets too hard. On "The TIde" & "Always" its so calm you can almost fall asleep to it. Given that dilema to new Christain music listeners, I will come to this conclusion. If you're a fan of rock/soft rock, get both. If you're a fan of the semi-harder stuff, get: Earthsuit, The Benjamin Gate, Audio Adrenaline (but "Lift" is kindof like these two), Skillet, and just about anything related to them. Hawd rockers. You're waay of course. POD, MXPX, Justifide, Beanbag, PAX217, Pillar, or TobyMac would probably be of your liking. I may not advise becoming a total Christian rock freak (hence the name) like moi. That list of EVERYTHING NEWSBOYS on the side is also mine. Perfect job, Furler & crew, you rule! Great CD top-to-bottom, A MUST-MUST-MUST-MUST-MUST HAVE FOR ANY CHRISTIAN LISTENER!!!

It's My FAVORITE CD!!!,

The Newsboys have done it again. I purchased "Step Up To The Microphone" when a friend recommended it. I loved it so much I also bought "Going Public". After seeing them live in concert at Creation Festival '99, I was so inspired I knew I had to have "Take Me To Your Leader". They all have fantastic arrangements and inspirational lyrics. My favorite songs are "Entertaining Angels", "Shine", and "Breakfast". I couldn't suggest you buy any other Christian CD as greatly as these three. I LOVE THEM!

This is the first Newsboys CD I bought. So I am a "newbie" (an appropriate name for Newsboy fans? hmmm?). I have since went out and Bought almost all their CD's. The Production on this CD is impeccable. It totally won me over. I thought I had a favorite song on the CD with "entertaining angels" But the entire album has grown on me. Can't wait to see them Live. I'm a Pretty finicky listener..If there is no substance or soul there it's dumped...but this album has the works. So...if your even thinking about it...don't hesitate, it is the Best Christian CD of the year in my book. ok?

WOW! This album is PURE GOLD! It's SOOOOO fun, and also kind of comforting to me. I don't really like to pick "favorites" when it comes to the Newsboys, but if I had to pick a favorite album they've done, this would probably be it. If I had to pick favorite songs on it, they would be Woohoo, Entertaining Angels, Believe, Truth Be Known-Everybody Gets A Shot (WAY awesomer when live!), Deep End, and especially Hallelujah; It's probably my favorite song of all time. If you read the lyrics, then you'll know what I'm like, hopeful when all seems hopeless. Anyway, EVERY SINGLE Newsboys freak must have this album. When I say freak, I mean CRAZY ABOUT THE NEWSBOYS. Go out and get it!! ROCK ON, NEWSBOYS!! PLEEEASE come to Virginia again!!

This album rocks, however... I'm a lil' biased towards "Disco" considering that it JUST came out and that it rocks just as well as "Step Up." "Step Up" is probably their 2nd best (with "Disco" coming in at 1st and "T.M.T.Y.L." in at 3rd). It was hard to adjust to Peter Furler as lead after John James' departure, but it isn't a bad thing at all. I recently saw the "Entertaining Angels" video and didn't realize Phil Joel sang lead. If anybody else knows what other songs he sang lead on, mail me. I think that everyone would agree that "Entertaining Angels" and "Believe" are the most melodic tracks on the album w/ other highlights being "Woo Hoo," "Step Up," "Believe," & "Truth Be Known." A slightly humorous approach to expressing their faith with a great musical accompaniment. They can only get better...

here's a nifty little story for all ya'll. once upon a time there was a girl named kaycie. she was invited to a newsboys concert. she decided to go even though she wasn't a big fan. well when she got to the concert kaycie was kinda mad because she had a pretty bad seat. she finally got tired of sitting near the back; she just had to get closer. she grabbed her friend jade by the arm and dragged her as close to the front of the crowd as she could. after quite a bit of moshing, crowd surfing, and pushing kaycie made it to the very front of the crowd. she was so amazed. kaycie was so close that the newsboys' bassist waved and smiled at her. kaycie went home that night thinking of what a big fan of the newsboys she had become. Kaycie recommends this cd to all of you. she also says to check out supernatural by DC Talk and The W's debut album. Goodbye and good luck.

I listen to this CD 24-7! The songs on this album are pretty much all uplifting-make you feel good kinda music, (Exept for The Tide & Always, they are more seriouse songs...) If you are a big Newsboys fan, this CD delivers! Woo Hoo & Deep End have an awsom sound, and songs like Entertaining Angels & Believe have great lyrics. And yes, John James is gone... but personaly, I think I like Peter Furlers voice a little better! It's just too bad they only allow 5 stars... should be more like...10...

One of their best albums!,

The Newsboys was my first favorite band, back when Christian music was all I listened to. Since then, I have broadened my tastes by miles, but I still enjoy nearly every single song on this album. It's catchy, upbeat, and clever. The lyrics aren't cheesy "Jesus is cool" nonsense that dumbs down the idea of the Christian faith. Rather, as is their policy, the Newsboys took this opportunity to create some really quality works that contain a solid message. One of the deepest songs on this album is the mellow but powerful "Believe," while the hit single "Entertaining Angels" delivers a simpler message with a seriously good tune. The introductory track, "Woohoo," is catchy and upbeat, leading into various nearly danceable tunes, and the album then winds down with the calm, quiet tracks "The Tide" and "Always." In short, there is a song for each type of music lover on this album.
I like all sorts of music now, but The Newsboys are still top notch in my book, and "Step up to the Microphone" is one of their most solid efforts. |
