This book is a fantastic text. I found that it was really helpful when reviewing for my System exams in medical school. There are some stellar diagrams in here, and the charts really are organized in a neat and methodical way. I found that while First Aid is great for board review, it was far too simplistic for my school system exams. This text has a little bit more details organized in a cleaner fashion.

That being said, for the purposes of preparing for the boards, there really is no single book that covers it all (even the almighty First Aid is woefully deficient in anatomy and biochemistry). You are going to need to form a core compendium books for preparation for that beastly exam. I wound up using the following.

Step Up to the USMLE Step 1
First Aid
Goljan Pathology
BRS Physiology

You will need to supplement those with Pharm/Microbio flashcards and take tons of questions. That being said, Step Up is a really great book and I think it wonderful to use in conjunction with your medical school exams (if your school is systems based)

I us Step-Up in conjunction with First Aid for USMLE and I find that they are very helpful when used together.

This book is an ABSOLUTE MUST when studying for Step 1. Combined with First aid and USMLE World you can't miss anything. Down side is it the Qbank sucks and it can not be used alone.
