Underdeveloped plot,
By
This review is from: Step, Vol. 1 (v. 1) (Paperback)
Step caught my interest with its summary. However, it turned out quite different than what I expected.
First off the art if printed in full color. I've gotten so used to black and white coloring that it was a wonderful surprise. The art itself isn't highly detailed. It almost appears as a watercolor, but with deep hues. The story is a series of short vignettes. Each story feeds a little bit of information into the next, but they rarely connect. This is the problem with the vignettes. The plot happens so fast it feels like information was left out. It makes we wish the author would spend jsut a few more pages on each vignette to flesh out the plot more. The only solid story line appears towards the end and will hopefully carry the series on. I dearly hope it does. The plot line grabs the reader and demands you attention. I felt cheated when this plot line ended and another random vignette began. I want to know what happens in that plot line - I don't need another plot. I don't know how this series will progress. I want to read the next vol simply because I'm hoping that the solid plot will reappear. This plot and the color art are the only things saving this work.

I want more!!!,
This review is from: Step, Vol. 1 (v. 1) (Paperback)
This is a really refreshing little book. It's in color, that's the big, in-your-face selling point.
The story is not very complex, but it definitely drew me in enough to be irritated at being completely unable to find a second volume. -_- don't tease me! |
