I enjoyed this video and definitely got a workout. However, it doesn't seem very suitable for beginners, at least not if you don't have dance experience of any type. I would call it a workout that utilizes Bellydance moves. The music is not traditional, nor the routines, but it's fun, upbeat, and you'll get a workout. Instructor is fun, and I think she does drop you some good visual hints throughout about how to hold yourself and keep from straining. You'll probably enjoy it if you're at the intermediate level, or have had enough classes to already be comfortable with the moves--it took me 2 classes just to understand what was happening with the knees in a shimmy!

I love this belly dance dvd. She gives great instructions. A little hard for the beginner in some moves, but a whole lot of fun. I am very happy with this step by step belly dance.

Previous reviewers are correct in stating that this is definitely not for beginners. Recently I started doing "Amira's Bellydance 101" (absolutely love it) and felt like I had learned a little something. Hehe.. evidently I had not learned as much as I had thought. I could not really keep up with "Step by Step BellyDance". After 30 minutes I turned it off. I'm giving it 2 stars because the instructor is very enthusiastic and fun to watch. More experienced dancers might be able to keep up with her. I'm just glad that no one could see inside my living room when I was trying to imitate her movements :)

I'm a beginner at belly dancing, so the words "step-by-step" were what attracted me to this. She does not teach moves step by step, and some moves she just assumes you know. The basic shimmy, for instance. I know what it is, but it is one of those moves she should demonstrate before adding it into one of her workout routines.
And these are workout routines. I enjoy dancing and music, but it doesn't feel like dancing. It feels like trying to follow a workout instructor with very faint music almost drowned out by the voice over.
Maybe for a more advanced dancer this would be a good dvd, but beginners should look elsewhere. This is too fast paced and disjointed to follow.
