I bought this for my 2 yr. old Grandson. He will get many yrs. of use out of this. He loves it. The pieces of wood to build with are a big plus to this work bench. It has plenty of tools that are safe, not sharp. The light is adorable. The drawers on front are not actually drawers, it is a big door for storage that appears to be drawers. I think this was a big plus as the drawers may have been a bit sticky to pull in and out. He loves the vacuum on the side, this was a big hit for sure! BTW don't waste your money on the more expensive certain hardware store one. My grandson pulled off one of the stickers on the screwdriver and guess whose name was underneath it? Yep Step 2 makes it for them. Only they charge twice the price. This is a great toy that will last for years.

Maybe I would have rated this higher were my expectations not let down. I was looking for a functional work bench for my son who is obsessed with tools. There is no purpose for the screws- nothing to screw into. The holes in the table are too big which I had assumed was the purpose of putting holes there. The drill, while it makes noise does little else. There is just nothing functional about this. the foam pieces are cool in concept but unless you are building the few designs it comes with the pieces are so irregularly cut you can't just make something up. And the screws (which should be nails since you need the hammer to get them into the foam-again, pointless screws) are difficult to get in and out. But my big disappointment is the shop vac... How hard would a sound effect been for the high cost of this toy. A light- that is my sons favorite part. Boys want buttons and things to manipulate. What a let down. Can't believe this rated so high and so many reviews boasted its functionality and high quality. I know I am in the minority here but please take my advice when I say there are better models out there and maybe if i didn't know that, this would not be such a let down.

This is a fabulous little workbench for that budding handy man (or handy woman!) in your life! It's wonderful! It was Christmas gift for my 2 year old son and he just adores it, as does his 4 year old sister. They literally sit in the play room for hours building and hammering away! It's a very popular toy during play dates as well, and the size makes it good for sharing. Two children can fit comfortably in front of it and play together.

This work shop has a ton of storage space, which make clean up so easy! It has a large storage bin below the main work area,as well as a cabinet, and a pull out drawer where tools can be safely stowed. One thing we loved is that it comes with it's own tools! The drill really "works" and makes a fun noise as it drills. It's by far, my son's favorite tool. This toy also comes with pretend "wood" that is virtually indestructible...and my son can be quite the toy wrecker! So far, this toy has held it's own!! It has that great Step 2 quality that you love - made with a very sturdy plastic.

My husband and I are extremely happy with the outcome! Definitely worth the price!

I bought this for my 2 year old son. He has not stopped playing with it since I put it together a few hours ago.

Assembly is simple. It would have been simpler if I wasn't one of those stupid girls that doesn't know how to use power tools. Took about 45 minutes, putting it together by myself without a drill. My 2 year old climbing over me and the parts trying to use his "tools" slowed down the process as well. :) There are few if any pre drilled holes in the parts. The screws that come with it go easily through the plastic without pre drilled holes. Might have been purposely done that way to prevent stripping the plastic? Not sure.

The bench itself is great with a drawer under the main part of the tabletop, a large cubby for the "wood", a cabinet with a cubby underneath and above. The plastic jars for the screws slide into grooves, pegs attach on the back wall to hang tools and there is a working light above the work bench. The vise grip isn't great and it frustrates my son because it doesn't tighten very well on the "wood" but I think that will be fine once he gets a little older. The bench is sturdy and I think will last a long time.

The vacuum while a cute touch is just a nuisance. It falls off and my son has pretty much ignored it.

The tools that come with the bench are awesome. It includes a hammer, screwdriver, drill with 2 bits that work, wrench, pliers and a saw that makes a sawing sound when it is used on the fake wood. The wood pieces are foam, puzzle like pieces that have a wood grain. You can put the screws through them with the drill and cut them with the saw. My son has loved that the most.

The light above the bench uses 3 AAA batteries and the drill needs 2 AA batteries.

While Step2 products tend to be 'pricier' than other products, what I like is that they make it worth your money. The product is durable; I have never had anything break, snap, bend, etc. (we also have a Step2 slide and table and chairs, and neither of these products have broken either). They also add little 'extras' that make the workshop look more realistic (light, shop vac, wood pieces that can turn into 'projects'). There is also a lot of storage, which is great because my son has other toy tools (that didn't come with this set) that he can store in the workshop like it's a toy chest. It only took us an hour to assemble. The only minor thing I don't like is that the little hooks to hang up tools only work with a few of the tools and tend to fall down if turned too far. Otherwise, I like this set because it fosters a great deal of creative play, is very durable, and can double as a toy chest.
