The lid doesn't keep snails and ants out. The snails come in, dry out and die, then the ants come in to eat up the snails. So, we have dead snails and ants filling up the sandbox.
+ good size for my preschooler and toddler to play together
+ it has a lid to keep cats out and the sand somewhat cleaner
- the lid keeps blowing off
- the lid doesn't seal the box enough to keep out snails
It's not a bad sandbox but it can use some improvements. I quickly realized it was a mistake to buy a sandbox, because I did not like the sand being tracked all over the house. But some people don't mind that. Just beware that the lid doesn't stay on well in windy conditions and snails are able to crawl in even with the lid on.
The cover is great too. It covers well. We've already had 2 hard rains and no water got in the sandbox. I know this is one of the things I was afraid off from reading other sandboxes. It's awesome!
Unfortunately when you don't replace the lid and the sand is exposed to the elements, water gets into the sandbox and there's nowhere for it to drain - resulting in an unsanitary sludge. Additionally, if you have any stray cats in your neighborhood you've just purchased a nice community litter box for them all to enjoy (how thoughtful of you!).
I just got done shoveling out a winter's worth of disgusting, slimey sand sludge/litter from our kids' sandbox. It was wet, stinky, and had a greenish tint to it (perfect for St. Patricks Day I suppose). Without a drain in the bottom to let water escape, it gets really disgusting.
I do plan to clean it and reuse it and 'try' to have the kids replace the lid, but I doubt the lid will get a chance to serve its purpose. I think a regular sand 'pit' might be better - at least it'll allow water to drain away and naturally clean the sand.
***UPDATE*** I've drilled a few 'drain' holes and that appears to have resolved the issue. Too bad Step2 didn't think of this first.

Its not a bad sandbox, the two and four year old enjoyed it. The top comes off easy and the eyes come off easy. Had to glue eyes and hope wind dosen't take the top away.Published 4 months ago by PAPAUL
