5.0 out of 5 stars Great indoor/outdoor play!
We planned to put this cottage out in the backyard but once it came, I immediately put it together in our living room. Right now, it's in the house but once the weather is nicer (tons of rain right now!), we plan to put it out back. It has a working doorbell which my son thinks is great & it comes with a little phone. He walks around talking on it all of the time! He...

3.0 out of 5 stars A little small
This house is small. My daughter is a small 2 year old and she fits perfectly, but I cannot see her enjoying this past maybe 3 years old. When I first put the house together she loved going in and out, ringing the doorbell and playing with the phone that comes with it. We have only had it 2 months and the novelty has already worn off. It's in our backyard and she will...

He loves sitting on the seat next to the "sink". He sits there to eat his afternoon snack! Great product! Amazon.com had the best price, too. We saw the same one at target.com but the shipping was horrendous (the store didn't carry it & we couldn't get it shipped to the store).

5.0 out of 5 stars Endless fun for toddlers!, July 27, 2009

I comparison shopped and this cottage appeared to be the best deal for its brand and size. My kids LOVE it! It's not an overwhelming size, we keep ours in the house, but it's not too small for multiple children to play in (a common complaint about other cottages if you look at different reviews) - my 2 toddlers spend hours in there: cooking, playing with stuffed animals, "sleeping," playing store, cleaning it up, I could go on and on. They love the little working doorbell, the mailslot, the working shutters and door, the little kitchen with "stools" on either side, and the phone. They are in toddler heaven! And they can still easily play in it when they have 1 or 2 other little toddler friends over to play. This was the best $175 we ever spent!

5.0 out of 5 stars The hit at our granddaughter's first birthday!, August 5, 2009

The Step2 Neat & Tidy Cottage was a hit at our granddaughter's first birthday. She loves it, especially the phone and doorbell. Her little playmates and cousins also enjoy the cottage when they visit...even the family dogs stop bye for a visit when Emmie's in the house. It arrived within days of purchase, was easy to assemble, is well made, colorful and interactive. We are very pleased but most importantly, Emmie loves it!

3.0 out of 5 stars A little small, August 13, 2010

This house is small. My daughter is a small 2 year old and she fits perfectly, but I cannot see her enjoying this past maybe 3 years old. When I first put the house together she loved going in and out, ringing the doorbell and playing with the phone that comes with it. We have only had it 2 months and the novelty has already worn off. It's in our backyard and she will occasionally go in, but not as much as I would like considering the price. If the house were just a little bigger (maybe wider-- it's very narrow) and had more "stuff" inside to do, I think it would be a better product. As others have said, the box is surprisingly LARGE (considering the house ISN'T) -- I had to take the pieces out and leave the box behind at the store and still barely fit it into the back of our station wagon. Also, the non pre-drilled holes made putting it together more challenging than need be. Overall the house is ok, it's cute, but may be worth spedning a little more for a larger house with more features.

We bought this toy for our daughter's second birthday. We have it set up indoors for the winter in our play room. Overall, it is a great toy. She and her almost 5 year old brother love playing with it. They've played for it very nicely for hours and hours on end.

The features of this toy are really cute. They love the mail slot, shutters, doorbell and phone. It is not too big and I like that it has a floor and open sides. It allows me to see inside more easily to keep an eye on them.

The reason I only gave it four stars was that I had some minor problems with the assembly. Some of the spots for the screws were not pre-formed, and it was difficult to get the screws to pierce the plastic. I also had to re-direct the screw that secures the table three times so it would actually catch. The roof seems a little thin as well, but the sides and floor are thicker and well made. I like the little details like the roof shingles and stone floor.

Overall, it is a great little playhouse for two smaller children. The kids love it and what is more important than that? I love that it is made in the U.S.A. as well. It would get five stars if the roof was a little more sturdy and they did a better job on the pilot holes.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great first playhouse, December 31, 2009

This is a great, first playhouse for my 22 month old boy. I bought it at Toys R Us on discount for $129 (normally $169), great deal. He loves the electronic door bell and phone, he takes the phone with him everywhere. He loves to sit in the corner and play with the sink area. I bought a little plastic hamburger frying pan set to go with it, so that makes it a little more interactive. It was very easy to build. I really like that it has its own plastic floor. The only real downsides are that it's a pretty small house so I think he will out grow it soon. Fyi, it does not fit through any standard-sized door once built, so unless you have double-doors in your house you have to pick a permanent site for it. Also, the plastic faucet sits really loose in its housing and almost seems like a defect. I looked at some Little Tikes houses, but personally I really prefer Step 2 products, they are really well thought out and don't appear to skimp. Little Tikes products always seem cheaper to me with less care involved in manufacuring and packaging. Just an observation.

We bought this for our two year old daughter. She loves it. It was really easy to put together and doesn't take up much room in the house. It is also easy to move around. Overall, it is a great product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Neat & Tidy true to it's name, February 27, 2011

I have a 21 month old son who loves to do everything Mommy and Daddy do and he LOVES to be outside, which is why I chose this play house. It's plastic, so I can just hose it off. We've only had it for a week, but he's already been collecting rocks to "wash" in the pretend sink and he's been playing with the phone both inside and outside. He loves opening and closing the shutters and playing peek'a'boo with us using the shutters. He's tall for his age and when he steps up onto the entryway his head has about 2 inches of clearance to the roof, he'll have to start ducking to get inside in a few months, which is no big deal. Once he's inside he's got plenty of head room. I can see him playing with this until he's at least four or five years old. Then we'll probably invest in one of the two story play ground monstrosities, we'll see. My dad and husband put this together and had a fairly easy time of it, except for a couple of screws that they needed an angled drill bit to properly seat (they are perfectionists, mind you). I would recommend having two people to put it together, much easier that way. I plan on keeping it on my back porch, so it will be somewhat protected from the sun. We looked at wooden playhouses but they would require more maintenance to stay pretty and if not tended to properly might be a splinter hazard, so I think this play house is an affordable, easy maintenance compromise. I fit inside and can even squeeze myself into one of the seats (only half my butt on the tiny seat, of course) We might bring it inside next winter if he seems interested, I love that it has its own floor, there are drain holes in it so you can hose it off too. I would definitely recommend this play house.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good for the price, December 19, 2011

As like other reviews.. it is small. But the price is right and even being small we for sure got our money worth. All kids love to play in this, and even though mine were a little rough It has lasted a couple years (inside) and is still standing. The table is a con.. as the kids want to sit on it and it isn't very durable. It still works, but its bent down a little. Whenever we have kids over everyone likes to play inside.. even if it is small. I think we've had 6 kids in there at one time (1-4 years old). I don't regret buying this one, but it is just "okay" it isn't anything special... but the price was right.

The largest box I ever saw, was on my doorstep today, not even a week from when I ordered this. I couldnt help myself, I just had to open this up, and take a look at the directions. I made sure everything was there, laid the various pieces out, and intended to embark on the assembly another day. After I looked at the directions, I thought I'd give it a shot: After all, I have a pretty decent drill/screwdriver, which makes putting this stuff together fairly easy. You really need one: Step 2 products are durable, but the drill holes are barely there. It took this single mom 40 minutes from the start to finish. I did it without any help, and it was simple. My daughter loved it, and although it's only going to last a year or so due to the height (she's a tall three year old), who cares at this price! The built in moulded floor is great, and that's why I chose this one.
