This toybox is bigger than you think, by looking at the pictures. It has *alot* of storage capacity. I love the push and slide feature of the lid. It's easy for my toddler to handle on her own. The piece is very sturdy too. Both of my kids have climbed in and out of it, together, and the unit does not budge. We have a real bookcase for children's books, so we don't need this piece for book storage. The shelves are not high enough to hold storybooks. Board books would fit fine. But, in our house, the shelves are used for displaying "treasures". :)

It comes in three pieces (the storage compartment, the lid, and the bookshelves). The assembly is a cinch and only took me about 5 minutes. You slide the bookcase portion into grooves on the top of the storage part. They "hook" together and then you secure the pieces with long screws (provided) through the back. I saw in another review that the screws went into the storage compartment. They do, but there are no pointed edges exposed, if you screw them in far enough. They go through and the tip screws into the outside piece of plastic. So it's just a short length of the middle of the screw, showing. Plus it is at the very top of the compartment, in a little groove. I don't see it being an issue at all. And it's an easy fix to wrap the section of screw that does show, in tape, if it is an issue.

I bought this toybox is for my girls' playroom. I'm going to buy another for their bedroom. Seriously, it's awesome!

Got this online even though I saw it later at Toys R Us. Glad, I got it online was $10. cheaper, and I got free shipping can't beat that. I love all the room it has inside,and the bookcase. Was so simple to assemble. Goes with my daughters bed and looks really cute in her room. Would recommend if you are looking for a toy box.

I bought this toy box with the pink lid for my baby's toys. I chose it because I liked the shelves on top. The box comes in 3 pieces - the area for the toys, the lid, and the bookshelves. Assembly is really easy. It requires 2 screws. That's it. We had no issues with sticking out screws or anything of that sort. The door slides up and away so toys are easily accessible. Also the shape makes it easy for the baby to reach in and grab what she needs. I am not really using the shelves for books as a book case. Instead, I put some cloth bins on top of the shelves. Some have small toys in there. Others have board books. This way, I can give the baby a bin and she can look for things she wants. I am using the big storage area for large toys.

I also wanted to comment that the toybox is pretty cute. I'm not a giant plastic furniture person - a lot of our "big toys" are wooden, like our play kitchen, giant doll house, puppet theater and the like. I really wanted another wooden toybox but couldn't find one with the functionality of this Step2 toybox. I bought this rather reluctantly (and only because it was going in the playroom). This really was a good buy and not the eyesore I was expecting!

I love this toy box. We had gotten another one that was very similar except that it didn't have the bookshelf part on top and it was green. It came broken.

This toy box came in perfect condition. It's durable, holds A LOT of toys, and I like the part where you can stick books or other toys on top.

Highly recommended.

We looked around for a while for the right toy box's for our girls, you know how it is checking out the reviews looking for the best price then trying to find who will ship for free....

so we settled on amazon something i find myself doing more and more (i love the free ship..cant lie and usually get what i want at a better price too) so back to these toy box's i really wasn't sure about these, i thought they might look a bit tacky and may not stand up to my girls.

i was wrong they are great, they shipped really fast, went together very simply they are very sturdy (my 2 year old gets inside her sisters) i love the safety lid, my girls slam doors a lot so i really wanted to make sure we wouldn't get trapped fingers, the lids on these have a gap that wouldn't allow for that, they are very pretty adding to there rooms not detracting they have huge amounts of storage my girls have way too many toys (according to grandparents that is) and they have room for more, plus books and teddy bears all fit in or on these.

so yep i love them

We bought the one with the red lid for my son years ago. It's fantastic! It has gotten a lot of use and we never had any problems with it. My kids also like to empty it out and "hide" inside. Gap at the bottom of the lid keeps little fingers from getting pinched. Upper shelf is very handy. I don't see how anyone could not love this toybox. We are going to buy another one for my daughters, this time with the pink lid.

I got this for my 1 1/2 year old daughters room. The Shelves are perfect for a stuffed animal and books, and the top shelf is great for little things i dont want her to be able to reach (for now at least!). She is still too little to open and close the chest by herself, but i kind of like that because when it gets to bedtime and cleanup time i can shut the chest and know that a mess will not pop up 5 minutes later. The inside of the chest is very large as well, plenty of room for current toys and more to come! And its cute! :)

I must say that my wife and I were looking for a new toy chest for a daughter's room. And this one came highly rated on amazon. I actually had very little to do with the ordering or even assembly. My wife says it goes together in 3 pieces in seconds, and only has 2 screws to hold it together. The hardest part for her was getting the screws through the dense plastic. According to her, a cordless drill only works so far, then as the angle becomes to much for the drill, you must move to a hand screw driver. So, with a little cursing she was able to get it together. That said, once together it is an extremely nice chest and shelf. It's not terribly deep, but it is wide, an easy operation of the chest lid, and holds a lot of toys. I came home from work and saw the final product and was extremely impressed. Our daughter loves it too. I suspect that it will last us many memorable years as she grows up. The best part is that it does add an extra 2 shelves to the room. You can never have enough shelves!

This product is wonderful but the bottom of the interior somehow got s hole punched in it. Other than that, it is great!!

I got this toy box for my daughter and it's the cutest ever! It's much bigger than I excepted and holds a lot of toys! I fit two great big tots of toys into this one toy box. The shelves I use for her dolls and favorite stuffed animals and they look super cute. My son also loves this toy box. It's great for getting kids to want to pick up their toys and put them where they belong.
