More About the Author

Writers are always told "write what you know." Stepfamilies, Caribbean paranormal romantic suspense and troubled teenage girls were my mix. What a combination!

I used to be a therapist who specialized in stepfamilies, and my first book, What's Special About Our Stepfamily?, was published by Doubleday. The second was a book for therapists titled Stepfamilies: The Step By Step Model of Brief Therapy published by Bruner/Mazel. Both were written with my husband, Roger B. Burt. We have acquired the rights back and plan to bring both out in Kindle editions.

Our two romantic suspense novels were the result of many years spent traveling to the Caribbean. On one plane ride we read a romance novel and said, "we can do better." Getting those books published - not so easy - and after many rejections, we self-published in trade paperback. A Dream Across Time and A Circle of Dreams, written using the pen name Annie Rogers, both won awards from Foreward Magazine. Some of those books still live in our garage. Then along came Kindle and internet publishing and our writing careers were never the same.

My latest project, with writing partner Laura Ambler, is Big Skye Ranch. This novel is about troubled girls who get sent to a last chance ranch in Montana where they are paired with equally troubled horses. This e-novel has integrated color graphics and won Runner-up to the Grand Prize and Best E-Book at the London Book Festival, Best E-Book at the Paris Book Festival and the 2010 National Indie Excellence Award for E-Book Fiction. The success of this novel led to our being asked to do a screenplay treatment and landed us a manager in Los Angeles. And then we were asked by a producer (on the strength of that first screenplay) to write a treatment of an optioned novel.

Writing continues to be an amazing journey. I love working with a partner and the creative synchronicity that happens when two right brains get together.
