5.0 out of 5 stars Jazz of Mythical Quality
Imagine lounging in a comfortable chair with your favorite drink looking at a perfect view; this recording would round out that picture very nicely, because it's all about beautiful melodies and wonderful improvisations and compelling rhythms. 3.0 out of 5 stars Fine music...poor engineering
This should be a first-rate disc...great leader, outstanding personnel, nice tunes. However, the recording (or mixing) engineer spoiled the balance between Grappelli and Woods. This review is from: Stephane Grappelli with Phil Woods and Louis Bellson (Audio CD)
Imagine lounging in a comfortable chair with your favorite drink looking at a perfect view; this recording would round out that picture very nicely, because it's all about beautiful melodies and wonderful improvisations and compelling rhythms. These are 3 of the giants of jazz, and they prove it by tossing off some wonderful music with what sounds like the greatest of ease. As an added bonus, sideman Marc Fosset also gets a chance to do some nice solos, especially on "It Might as Well be Spring". Highly recommended.

This should be a first-rate disc...great leader, outstanding personnel, nice tunes. However, the recording (or mixing) engineer spoiled the balance between Grappelli and Woods. Phil Woods, although playing tastefully, and not blowing hard, is way forward in the mix, much louder than anyone else, and Grappelli, even during his solos, never seems even to emerge from the background of the rhythm section. As the leader he should have been accorded a decent recording level. If it weren't for this inexcusable failure, the disc would rate 4 or 5 stars.
