I have no idea what the Mom of two boys did to her lunch box but I am a Daycare provider and always get these lunch boxes for the kids when they transition and on thier 1st Birthday. I have never had a problem and have ordered about 50 over the years. Wear and Tear comes from putting them inside the dishwasher(stupid idea). Because some of my parents either don't have time or are just lazy I have had to clean them on occasion.
~~I always turn them inside out...
~~Use hot dish soap water on rag wrung dry.
~~Then I add a spray of Anywhere Clorox dry and then air dry.
They have always been fine. On the few occasions where milk or unclean smell is in there...I add lemon juice from a lemon with some baking powder let sit then clean as above. I love these lunch boxes and so do the kids. One more thing...when you use the frozen ice packs...Reguardless of what kind you use...put them in a double sandwich bag. It will keep things dry and you just throw it in freezer with the lunch bag on and clean from time to time. Hope this helps. :)

I have had this lunchbox for about a year now - and my son still loves it. I wipe it out with soap and water to keep it clean. It's so cute with his matching backpack.

My 3-year-old son has been using this lunch box for 2 months. It stinks -- literally. I clean it every night and it still smells terrible. I think some milk leaked from his thermos one day and I cannot get the odor out.

The design is cute, although even the outside is starting to look worn after 9 weeks of average use. I do not recommend this lunch box, though I have enjoyed other Stephen Joseph products. This lunchbox is a bust.
