4.0 out of 5 stars Great Book, February 1, 2012

This review is from: Thinner (Paperback)
I saw the movie before reading the book and I thought the movie was pretty good. The book was just as good, although I thought the movie version was somewhat better. There were times that it got a bit tedious but overall I enjoyed it and I would definitely recommend this book to others.

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Stephen King 6: The Tommyknockers, Thinner and Bachman Books : 4 Early Novels (Paperback)
I had read a few of Stephens books before, but I never knew just how much Mr. King would grasp and take hold of my imagination in his best selling novel "Thinner". This man really knows how to take aspects of both reality and the imaginary and combine them into amazing stories. In the book, Bill Halleck, runs into a gypsy woman crossing the street. In revenge, the woman's father casts a curse on Bill. This unusual curse drastically changes Bill's body and terrifies anyone who comes in contact with him. Frantically, Bill looks for something/someone to help him stop the curse that is just "eating away at him". How will this this devlish curse subside? Only the evil forces in Bills body know. So to overcome what could surely be his death, he must come face to face with the one who gave him the curse in the first place. Who will be the victor in the end? Will Bill survive long enough to confront his "opponent"? Read this amazing novel and find out.

4.0 out of 5 stars 4 and 1/2, June 23, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Thinner (Paperback)
Without the Bachman books added to this i would only rate this 3 stars. The Tommyknockers is a bore for the first 250 pages and I admit does get better. Its quite unrealistic and im not a huge fan of sci-fi but its an ok read if you have nothing better to do because Jim Gardener is a pretty interesting and dynamic character. The story follows a small town of Haven as "tommyknockers" gradually take over the lives of everyone residing in Haven. The Thinner is another ok read. I didnt feel like King wrote enough about the gypsy man who cursed a man for running into his daughter. The book is a little grotesque as the gypsy's victim continues to grow thinner and thinner. I suggest you see the movie first and are totally in love with it read the book. Your best bet are the King books written under the Bachman name because they are in my opinion far more interesting.
