The story was interesting, not as outlandish as some of his stories .

I mean, some bad scary movies I can watch and be like "Eh, whatever."

Thinner has always been one of my favorite King movies for some reason and if your reading this review you probably have already seen it and are interested in what they did with the blu ray. I was amazed at the quality of the transfer of this Blu Ray. The audio and picture are amazing, but I was seriously disappointed that it is a Bare bones release with no special features what so ever.

Billy Halleck (Robert Burke) is the biggest lawyer in town, both by reputation and size. Weighing in at 297 pounds he is already on a diet mandated and monitored by his wife who wants him to lose weight. Billy just won a big lawsuit for his client Richie Ginelli, called Mr. Mafia by Billy's daughter, who is an underworld crime boss. He celebrates the victory with dinner with his wife and while traveling home he is distracted and kills a 75 year old gypsy woman who is in town with a local carnival. Being the biggest lawyer in town and friends with the sheriff and the judge he barely gets into trouble even though he is clearly at fault and lies about what really happened. Knowing the system he manipulates the truth and he doesn't accept the responsibility for his careless driving and actions. He doesn't even get points on his driver's license.

After the court hearing the 109 year old gypsy grandfather of the victim touches Billy's face and says one word, "Thinner." Billy begins to quickly lose weight and no matter what he does he is facing death. Everyone involved in the case and the release of Billy including the judge and the sheriff are dying of strange diseases. The common cause seems to be the old gypsy grandfather who touched all those men and said one word to each one.

Billy begs forgiveness from the grandfather who tells him that if he doesn't leave the gypsy camp that his curse will get worse. Billy curses the gypsies as the White Man From Town because that is what the gypsies call him. Vengeance turns out to be a pie served cold!

This was a good movie if you are a Stephen King fan. I own the DVD and the book and I actually like the book better as it goes into much more detail as books often can do.

I had seen this years ago and remember thinking the acting stunk. I thought I'd watch it again this weekend and the same impression was made. The lead actor is really horrible. The fat makeup or costume or whatever is obvious and he looks weird in the first half of the movie, unrealistic. When he loses weight he looks a bit more realistic but he is so stiff and unnatural acting that it kills it. But the story is entertaining, sometimes outright hilarious and the twist ending is great. Leave it to Stephen King. I just wish they'd translate his stuff to the screen with better writing and acting. A lot of movies made from his books are downright bad. But it is entertaining on a boring afternoon so I recommend it and it's safe for the whole family.

This movie is based on another one of Stephen Kings books and is sure to catch your attention. Based on fictional characters as well as plot Thinner will keep you guessing whats next and how far will one man go to be cured. With a typical Steven King twist at the end your sure to be captivated from beginning until the end.

Unfortunately, this - in my opinion - is one of the worst Stephen King movies thus far. I was very excited to see it; I have always been a big Stephen King fan. However, I was beyond disappointed. This is listed as a horror flick, but the only horror was the acting. I definitely would not recommend this to any horror movie seeker.

First of all, I would rate this movie high because it is good. All aspects of it. I liked the setting in an out of the way location in New England. Brilliant story line. I now really do believe in Gypsi curses. The acting is superb. No movie could be better casted. Right down to the smallest part these actors did a wonderful job. I think I got this picture because of Joe Mantegna's treatment of the tough guy gangster roll he played. Kerry (let's see if I can spell this right) Wurhr is so pretty as the Gypsi princess. the music was perfect. Beautifully preformed. If you have a weakness for the macabre, as I do, and you like suspense, there is never a dull moment in this one. By the way, like Alfred Hitchcock, Steven King puts himself in all of his pictures. But unlike Uncle Alfred he has speaking parts. Plus he's a pretty good actor with a flare for humor. Two thumbs up for this one. Mort.

When it comes to Stephen King you will get a very good and creative story and movie. I have not read a book or watched a movie based off Stephen King that I have not liked. You will get the same satisfaction with this movie. This movie will keep you on the edge of your seat to see what happens next. I loved the movie and can't wait for even more Stephen King movies get to blu-ray.

Always a favourite Stephen King of ours. Never a popular film, but loved that it stayed pretty true to the novel, except for a slight let-down at the end. Marvellous performance by Burke as Billy Halleck. Terrific quality of film.
