Editorial Reviews

Product Description

With lucid exposition and gorgeous graphics, anthropologist Stephen Lansing exposed the hidden structure and profound health of the traditional Balinese rice growing practices. The intensely productive terraced rice paddies of Bali are a thousand years old. So are the democratic subaks (irrigation cooperatives) that manage them, and so is the water temple system that links the subaks in a nested hierarchy.

This product is manufactured on demand using DVD-R recordable media. Amazon.com's standard return policy will apply.

4.0 out of 5 stars Analysis of complexity and cooperation on Balinese society, September 13, 2009
This review is from: Stephen Lansing: Perfect Order: A Thousand Years in Bali (DVD)
Study of complexity and self-organization in a cooperative system--goes beyond Adam Smith and the marketplace thinking. Good review of a system that worked until the arrogance of the Green Revolution wrecked the system.
