Oprah needs this book,
By Debbie Manning (Phoenix, Arizona) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Stephen's Moon (Paperback)
Stephen died in a car accident at the age of eighteen and this is his mother's story. I don't know when or if I have ever been so affected by anything.I do know one thing - this child of Marcia's was apparently meant to be a gift to more people than could ever have known him here on Earth. I hope Marcia knows how many lives she has touched by sharing this story, that people read this book and find in the pages the determination to not be whipped by loss, but to become a survivor, as she did.

A Personal Review,
By Sharon Beam (Dallas, Georgia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Stephen's Moon (Paperback)
I knew Stephen and his family since he was 8 years old and spent most of my high school years going to his football, baseball and basketball games. He was a wonderful boy full of life and so easy to love. He was and will always be "My Sweet Stephen." This book is a must read for anyone who has lost a child or who is on the other side looking in. From the moment I started reading "Stephen's Moon" I did not put it down until I was finished. It helped me understand what Marcia went through and how she dealt with and survived through people's reactions, feelings, and things they said to her during her grieving. It also answered many questions such as "What do you say?" and "What do you do?" when such tragedies happen. Stephen touched the lives of us all and will always be with us. This book will touch your life too. We named our son after Stephen and it was the best thing we could have ever done. Every time my husband and I look at our son we both feel warmth in our hearts that will always be filled by Stephen E.Beam.

A very inspirational book. The author not only tells her story, but brings to mind our own sorrow and how to cope with it. It helps one understand the struggle of finding his true peace. A must read for anyone thinking of becoming a pastor.

An Eye Opener,
By Douglas (Hannibal, Missouri) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Stephen's Moon (Paperback)
If you have never experienced the loss of an immediate family member, then this is the book to read. It is an eye-opener to the suffering and pain that is related to such an incident. Myself, never losing a loved one so close, cannot fathom the tremendous grief that comes along with it. This book does just that. Marcia has successfully transferred those feelings from deep within herself to the pages of this book. It makes you realize that people go through these types of situations everyday and they've just got to try and maintain living a normal life. Some say that they could never live through such trajedy. Marcia is not only a great example of one who has lived through it, but through this book she proves to others that they can do the same. She continues to live strongly with her son through the remembrance of him and the blessed time they spent together. This book is a quick read, and one that is not easily put down. It will grip you with the stark reality of life and death and the feelings you have been forced to experience or ones that you may one day expect to be confronted with.

Stephen's Moon is the best book I have ever read. The author captures the reader's attention from the beginning. I couldn't put it down. I felt her pain, I felt her sorrow - I was amazed at the whole book. I was proud of this mother for surviving and helping others through the loss of a loved one.

A lesson to us all,
This review is from: Stephen's Moon (Paperback)
Marcia Carter writes "My son was my hero". Well, I believe she will become a hero to anyone who reads her story. Living through a tragedy no one would ever want to go through, she writes of the true meaning of love, and how a loved one will always live on in your heart. I have lost loved ones, but never a child, so I can only relate in certain ways, but I know we can all learn about compassion, and the endurance of the human spirit through her words. When you get this book, be ready to read, I stood in my kitchen from the first page, and didn't move til I was finished.

an excellent grief book, i highly recommend it to anyone who has suffered a tragic loss, especially the loss of a child. it was written with honesty and compassion for others who are suffering, by a mom who understands the awful grief process. as a bereaved parent who is always looking for comfort and ways of coping with the loss of my child, the book was excellent.

Uplifting and Wonderful,
By Kathie Kelly (Colonial Beach, Virginia, USA) - See all my reviews

This book was wonderfully written. I am glad that Marcia was able to write her experiences and feelings to help others like me deal with our pain of loosing a child. I lost my child May 10, 1998 and I can't explain the pain, but having someone out there to share helps to know that I am not alone and there is someone who cares and understands. I give her alot of praise for all she has been through and how she turned it into a positive instead of a negative. I too made the death of my son into a positive helping others dealing with the same loss. I am the Outreach Coordinator for The Compassionate Friends, Fredericksburg, VA Chapter. With out TCF and people like Marcia, I wouldn't have made it as far as I have. Thank you Marcia and God Bless you!

There is life after grief,
By Debbie Watson (Atlanta, Georgia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Stephen's Moon (Paperback)
I didn't put this book down until I read the last page. You will cry but you will laugh, too. Like the author, I am a southerner, but you don't have to be from the south to appreciate these words of hope, humor and healing. Stephen's Moon is a medium for getting you onto the "life raft" described in the book.
