Book Description

October 18, 2000
This guide was designed to let stepparents know there is HOPE out there for those of us who suffer daily from stepparental pressures. A light-hearted look at the roles of stepparents is modeled through a series of quick "lessons." These are followed up with valuable clinical advice from a licensed psychotherapist and ends with suggested reading resources which provide dramatic improvements in stepfamily relationships. The guide is partnered with a CD of “I Will Survive” rewritten and re-recorded exclusively for stepparents.

About the Author

Elizabeth James has been in a stepparent situation since 1986. Her husband's daughter was six at their first introduction and is now facing her 21st birthday. She has lived first hand through years of frustration and exhaustion stepparents face by being ignored, blamed, assaulted, discounted and completely rejected. Only through the tools learned through therapy (and a good bit of humor) is she now able to understand and cope with the behavior of the stepchild as well as the biological parents. At 42 years old, Elizabeth James is looking forward to much brighter days while she puts to good use these new relationship tools.

4.0 out of 5 stars This book is sure to put a smile on your face.., January 23, 2001
This review is from: The Stepparent Survival Guide : Quick Tips For Successful Relationships (Paperback)
The Stepparent Survival Guide is a book for those who do not want to spend a month, maybe three, reading a book to help you deal and sort through your stepfamily situation. This book is for people like me, whose time is precious and who needs to cut right to the chase and get the info I need. The Stepparent Survival Guide is written with quick wit, "hit the nail on the head" edict and humorous sarcasm. The book does indeed provide some good solutions to problems you may be having as a stepparent. The book also addresses the marriage and/or relationship you have with your spouse while a stepparent and effectively with some well earned wisdom. Much of this book many stepparents are already clever enough to figure out - but until we actually see it in print, and put it into practice based on the encouragement you'll get from this book, we suffer unnecessarily.

The book come complete with a free CD that I thoroughly enjoyed listening to, it brought a smile to my face. The cd blared the tune "I Will Survive" which was re-recorded and adapted to a step mom's words and feelings. I plugged this tune into my PC and boogied in my seat as my husband looked on quizzically.

This book is sure to put a smile on your face and hopefully help you to understand that you are definitely not alone as a stepparent.
