I even love to listen to the non english music.

In "Fresh Air" Elisa's voice sounds like a whisper and you immediately get involved in a sort of a mantra, which is basically a sort of stream of consciousness.

The tone of Elisa's voice is unique and connects with me.

It's a good compilation (expressely made for the America merket) of tracks already included in other previous albums. That explains alone why price is so low.
But the mix is not good enough if you want to start appreciating Elisa's talent from this set.

Check instead these ones:

Soundtrack 96-06 with the stand-out, sublime cover of late Mia Martini's "Almeno Tu Nell'Universo"

"We'll say life is a song and it's one you could whistle
And dance to"
- 'Nostalgia'

Elisa Toffoli is an Italian singer who has spent most of her recording years singing in English. Incredibly enough, she's made quite a name for herself doing so in her native Italy, and a few years back, her song 'Dancing' first hit U.S. airwaves after a performance on "So You Think You Can Dance". While "Steppin' on Water" may be her seventh album overall, it's one of the few released for the U.S. market (alongside 2008's "Dancing") and therefore features several songs that have already gained life outside North America.

This "project", as the disc is categorized, is a mish-mash of songs that Elisa has either recently recorded, re-recorded with English lyrics, or re-done from their original versions. It begins with new tune 'Love is Requited', a fairly gentle pop/acoustic song featured on the soundtrack of "Someday This Pain Will Be Useful to You". Perhaps the only other song like it on the record is 'Nostalgia', which was relased to a fair amount of success in Italy about a two years earlier.

Other previous hits are 'So Much of Me', which was big in its Italian form 'Gli Ostacoli del Cuore' and 'One Step Away' (previously recorded as 'Eppure Sentire'), which has been given an updated treatment with newer English lyrics. There are also some tracks Elisa had recorded for her "Ivy" acoustic album, including 'Fresh Air' and 'Forgiveness', both of which are enchanting, especially the latter.

For those who loved 'Dancing', it's featured here as a bonus track, recorded from a concert. Though it's in a different key than the studio version, the live one is amazing as well, perhaps even more emotional and touching for its simplicity.

Elisa's newest album, "Steppin on Water" shows not only the extreme talent Elisa has as a musician, artist and songwriter but also as a storyteller. Trough each song, she shares her heart with each listener as they enjoy listening to the music and lyrics put together from her heart, for her fans.

These songs share lessons, feelings, hopes and dreams while allowing her many followers that have taken this journey with her through the years to fall in love with her all over again. Those hearing her for the first time will hear her enchanting and timeless voice, surrounded by music which has a variety of influences represented as well as Elisa's own special touches. Elisa's voice and music have always just swept me away.

Elisa's past albums have always proven to be more than music and lyrics. They are interpretations of memories, thoughts and the world around us. "Steppin' on Water" has exceeded all expectations of a new project of Elisa's and has opened the door to new emotions, insight and not only a broad view of the world around us but a chance to look at ourselves as we go through each day and take part in our place of this world.

The song choices on this album make it a must have for any music collection for someone of any age which has been tested in my house. My 12 year old daughter, Katia is a huge fan of Elisa's music from the first time she heard her singing a few years back. She had a "connection" right away and enjoys both her English songs as well as quite a few of her Italian hits.

My favorite tracks on this album (it is hard to pick just a few) are "Love is Requited", "Dancing", "Forgiveness" and "Fresh Air".

Katia' favorites are, "Love is Requited" and she really enjoys the video made for this song as well.

I would describe "Steppin' On Water" as a gentle, yet powerful and fierce album composed of a selection of acoustic songs that embrace the listener thanks to Elisa's mellow voice.
The core of the album shows Elisa's pursuit of simplicity and truth without being pretentious. There is no room for affected tricks in these songs. It is just you and Elisa's voice. This is what you get back when you listen to her.
The lyrics are intentionally abstract and evocative and easily connect with everyone's life.
Although she is mainly a songwriter, "Steppin' On Water" also includes three tracks that were not penned by Elisa herself. "Love Is Requited", "Apologize", and "Just As One" were indeed signed by composer Andrea Guerra (Nine, The Pursuit Of Happiness, Hotel Rwanda) and Michele von Büren for the soundtrack to the indie movie "Someday This Pain Will Be Useful To You" directed by Roberto Faenza and based on Peter Cameron's best selling novel.
Other songs such as the emotional ballad "Forgiveness", the fragile "Fresh Air", and the bitter sweet "Lullaby" recall the mood of the U.S.A. debut album "Dancing".
"Forgiveness" sets one of the greatest lyrics ever written by Elisa. I think it is a very tough reflection in which Elisa's main goal is to make peace with her soul by fighting her own inner demons. Her vision becomes a very interesting point of view whenever you feel lost. At first this track was recorded along with Antony Hegarty (Antony And The Johnsons) as a duet. Give it a listen because it is really worth it. In "Fresh Air" Elisa's voice sounds like a whisper and you immediately get involved in a sort of a mantra, which is basically a sort of stream of consciousness. "Does everything come back to you? Is everything cyclical?", Elisa wonders in the refrain.
