Steps to Recovery From Bible Abuse,
By A Customer
This review is from: Steps to Recovery from Bible Abuse (Paperback)
This book is a valuable resource for gays and lesbians who wrestle with the pain and low self-esteem caused by the irrational rejection heaped upon them by institutionalized religion. At the very least, the book opens the doors of scriptural reinterpretation of sexual orientation that is based on love, acceptance and compassion.I am impressed with the great amount of careful study and practical application that the book contains. One of the most valuable features of the book is the use of personal experiences to illustrate the material. *Steps to Recovery from Bible Abuse* will become a primary source for anyone who wants to understand and address the spiritual issues faced today by the gay community viz a viz the hateful "Christian" demagoguery that we often see today in America. I strongly recommend this book.

Review of Steps to Recovery From Bible Abuse,
By A Customer
This review is from: Steps to Recovery from Bible Abuse (Paperback)
After spending years working with people from one of the cults, the title captured my attention, Steps to Recovery from Bible Abuse. Dr. Truluck's book is written to help gay people that have suffered spiritual abuse. While this self-help book is written specifically for a gay audience, the material is of benefit to all people working with the spiritually abused. Anybody that has come out of a cult should read this book. Reading the book helped me deal with some of the abuse I suffered in a cult.Throughout the book, Dr. Truluck uses God's grace and Biblical understanding as a source of healing. The author attempts to heal and empower those that have been spiritually abused and to make them into a source of healing for others. The book is divided into 52 lessons. Because the book is divided into 52 sections, it can easily be used for a weekly study/recovery group. In one of the appendices, Dr. Truluck explains how to lead small groups. By following the principles in the book, people can go from being victims of spiritual abuse to being agents of recovery from spiritual abuse. This 550 page book is a valuable resource to all people that have experience spiritual abuse and to all people that help the spiritually abused. This book is a very inexpensive resource and is a must for every pastor's and every counselor's library. Five stars out of five stars! The author and publisher are to be commended for publishing an affordable resource.

Great book, I am using this book for our homegroup here in Christchurch, New Zealand, and we are finding it a very good book, to help us sort through the issue of being gay and christian, and feeling very encouraged. It is creating some great discussion and sharing. It is a good book for helping you get back into bible study and believing and feeling that the bible is still relevant and useful, when used in the right way.

This book has been not only a life changer, but a life saver for me! I have been so hurt by traditional religions, as have so many in the gay community. Dr. Truluck writes in exquisite detail about how the scriptures (particularly in the gospels) proove that Jesus in fact didn't discriminate and then and wouldn't now. The politics of the dangerous ex-gay movement and the literal/legalist Bible believers are exposed and fully examined. The history of how Jesus dealt in His day with these people is given. For every example given there is scripture to back it up. This is the most important book I have yet seen on the nescessity of recovery, support, love and acceptance of ourselves and other GLBT Chrisitians. You can not read this book without a knowingness coming over you that of course it is possible and acceptable to be gay and Christian; furthermore Jesus loves all his children equally without exception.

Bravo and cheers to Theologian Dr. Rembert Trulock on his research in this amazing tome. If you are gay or lesbian you owe it to yourself to buy this book. I have used this book to debate theologians of all religions and they have all agreed that they could not disprove any of the statements from this book. Dr. Truluck is a master at Bible interpretation and points out the gay affair between King David and Jonathan along with the lesbian affair between Ruth and Naomi. Both are vividly described IN the Bible. He also goes on to point out the errors in Leviticus and most of the other anti-gay quotes that have been distorted by modern day theologians as they try to make it sound as if the Bible discourages or condemns homosexuality, which it does not, as born out by Dr. Trulucks exhaustive research and unquestionable logic. Never again will someone be able to distort the Bible's views on homosexuality to your face. This book will give you the weapon and ammunition to fight off prejudicial attacks from all directions.
If you are gay or lesbian and you are sick and tired of being verbally abused I urge you to purchase this book. You will be so happy you did and you will never regret the day having it your side. Plus, it will validate you as an upstanding member of society and will move you from what may feel as being a second class citizen to being a first class citizen, as you are, truly and righteously. This tome gave me a new lease on life, literally and I recommend it to all. Five stars is not enough for this book ... it deserves TEN stars. Dartagnon Puissant |
