While "500 AP U.S. History Questions to know by test day" is designed to prepare students for the multiple-choice questions on the AP U.S. History Exam, it can also help students ace the SAT U.S. History Exam. The answer explanations in this book are particularly useful and educational. In most cases, all of the choices in the multiple-choice question are analyzed.

If there are some gaps in the way that you are prepared for the exam, this book will fill them for you rather than just tell you the correct answer for a particular problem. For example, in a question about the arms-for-hostages controversy in the Reagan Administration, there are four other issues listed. Rather than just tell us about the Iran-Contra Affair, the answer also informs the reader about these other issues: the S&L Crisis, Whitewater, the H.U.D. Scandal, and the Inslaw Affair.

The 500 questions in this book are useful in preparing for the "factoid" questions on the S.A.T. U.S. History Exam. These questions are not similar to most of the questions that you will face on the S.A.T. Exam, just some of them. As such, you should use this book in addition to, not as a replacement of, books that prepare you for the S.A.T. Exam.

For the A.P. Exam, this book ought to be wonderful. The rest of this review considers some of the mistakes in the book, which hopefully will be corrected in a subsequent edition.

***

There are four questions where the Answer Explanations have the incorrect answer. #303 is not (B), because the 15th Amendment was introduced after the Wade-Davis bill. The answer explanation states this correctly, and seems to indicate that choice (D) is the correct answer, because Wade-Davis upped the loyalty oath percentage to 50%.

I bought this book to study for a midyear exam in my AP US History Class

It's questions are quite good. About half of the questions are simple fact recall questions, while the other half is more analytical. One of the best parts about this book is the EXTREMELY DETAILED explanations of the answers in the back. About 1/3 of the book is the questions, while the other 2/3 is answer explanations. Every question has a good paragraph of background information and a detailed explanation of why that answer choice is correct and why certain distractor choices are wrong.

This book is very good. I strongly recommend it!

I teach AP US History and own dozens of test prep books. This book is hands down the best book I own to help my students prepare for the general knowledge portion of the test. Most questions are relevant to the content (although there are a few that I feel are not essential) One thing I truly appreciate about this book is the detailed answer section, which explains what the correct answer is and why the other options are incorrect. I highly recommend this book!

This is great. My kids use these all year. This is for class next year but i expect it will be as handy as the ones we had last year. My kids found that several of in school tests use similar questions. Great study aid. Great resource for high school. Fast delivery.

Great book, questions mirror collegeboard's type of questions. This book is a great study tool because the best form of studying is practice, with this book your practice will not go to waste :)
