1.0 out of 5 stars The only thing to fear is the book itself!
The information contained in this book is hardly objective. The author guides the reader down a road of outlandish preparedness tactics. This book is advises the reader to use non-fiction methods to address fictional situations. If you buy this book and follow its advice, the world really will be in trouble.

As the former COO of a company which makes embedded computers, and currently the Global Director of Marketing for Computers, Peripherals, Networking & Communications for one of the largest service organizations in the world, I can assure readers that the Y2K problem has the potential for a dramatic, disastrous impact on Americans. Most of us have heard the wakeup calls and have heeded them to one degree or another, and have planned to prepare to avoid significant problems due to Y2K-caused disruptions. Happily, most of us are not so blithely unconcerned as to dismiss the Y2K issue entirely (as are some of the reviewers of this book).

To that end, I was very pleased to pick up a copy of "3 Steps to Y2K Readiness for the Home and Family," by Don Sabatini. I've read a few texts on the Y2K problem as it affects the typical family, and in my mind, this book stands above the rest. It focuses on the problem, gives us the a concise understanding of it and makes complete recommendations; all in a clean, easy-to-understand fashion. He reduces complex issues into layman's language probably better than any other author I've read.

You owe it to yourself and your family to prepare for potential Y2K-related problems. This book is perhaps the best means of addressing those problems.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Compilation of Information, March 29, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: 3 Steps to Y2K Readiness For The Home and Family (Paperback)
This book has a wealth of information and each tidbit is well referenced as to where it came. I have read a great deal on the topic, belong to multiple Y2K groups, and recognize that extremists exist on both sides - from those that claim `the end of the world' to those that believe `it's a big hoax.' As the Systems Administrator for my company, I am regularly asked by friends and coworkers what I plan to do to prepare for Y2K. I am confident that this book IS the best resource and provides each of them with the information necessary to prepare themselves, and it allows them to absorb the implications slowly rather than through an eye-glazing five-minute dissertation from me. From what could happen and how it could affect our lives, to how to prepare and what precautions should be considered, the book covers it all. The author successfully bridges the gap between the novices and the experts. If not for yourself, consider purchasing it for someone you know that is a Y2K novice.

5.0 out of 5 stars The checklist was invaluable., March 9, 1999

This review is from: 3 Steps to Y2K Readiness For The Home and Family (Paperback)
For the company that employs me, I wrote a Y2K Plan. This plan includes our company's Y2K Test Plan and its Y2K Contingency Plan. I picked up Don Sabatini's book because I was interested in other people's opinions and plans for Y2K.

Don Sabatini's book impressed me. I found the book easy to read and I particularly liked its comprehensive checklist. I would recommend buying this book just for the checklist.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very readable book on issues to consider regarding Y2K!, June 9, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: 3 Steps to Y2K Readiness For The Home and Family (Paperback)
Enjoyed reading something short and to the point on the issues that I need to consider regarding the turning of the century. I will definately take action on things as simple as having cash around the house, water, etc so that if something does go wrong - it won't effect me and my family!

5.0 out of 5 stars Real Information!!, June 8, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: 3 Steps to Y2K Readiness For The Home and Family (Paperback)
Last Saturday I met a Y2K consultant. He was getting ready to sell his house, convert all his cash to gold and silver, grab his generator and move to the hills by late October. He was about to do all this because of what he 'knew' about Y2K! I think he's a nutcake, thank god my wife bought this book by Don Sabatini for me so I KNEW what I really DO need to think about - and what is hype!

5.0 out of 5 stars Book offers good advice that is easily understood, June 5, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: 3 Steps to Y2K Readiness For The Home and Family (Paperback)
I liked this book because it helped me to understand what Y2K is all about. I have no computer background and this book made perfect sense to me. I liked that the book informed me of different options to deal with Y2K. I could decide for myself how seriously I was going to take Y2K, and what if any precautions I want to take. I like a lot of the simple little tips the author offered that I would have never thought of. I chose to take moderate precautions which will cost me little or nothing but will bring my family and I great peace of mind at New Year's time!

My husband kept telling me to read this book but I thought "No way, boring, no impact that concerns me." But, there it was and I read it and I'm very glad I did. This book was short, informative and far from boring! I'm now able to discuss this intelligently and make informed decisions.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent overview by a terrific writer, March 22, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: 3 Steps to Y2K Readiness For The Home and Family (Paperback)
Although I believe the whole Y2K subject is a tempest in a teapot, Don Sabatini has managed to cut through the techno-babble and present a clear and concise view of the problem and possible ramifications. Don's presentation is careful, logical and extremely well crafted. Hopefully, Don will consider writing on other subjects -- he is very good.
