Not knowing squat about toners, RG-6, low voltage wiring etc...I was presented with a dilemma. Lots of unlabeled coaxial in my new house. How to figure what goes where? This little tool helped me figure it out AND for <$20!! Instuctions fit for dummies. Manufacturer provides a 1-800# and a web site!! 4 stars because it uses a cylindrical battery I have never seen before (A23 MN21: 12Volt).

We just moved into a house that is fully wired for cable (often more than 1 jack per room). We couldn't find the jack for the bedroom and I finally gave up and ordered the Pocket Toner. Due to the lack of instructions it took two tries for me to find the cable but it was easy to use! The way this works is that the part that is below the battery compartment is actually the part that emits a tone and should go with you to the end you are testing (which was the mess of cables in the basement in my case). The other end with the battery in it basically can plug right into a cable jack. Now as you test cables with the small piece when you make contact with the correct cable you get a tone. In my case I went over every cable and got nothing and was disappointed, however when I got upstairs my wife let me know that a tone came on, so I knew to swap ends.
If you often are hooking up cables (or helping others do it) this can certainly make it easier to label everything correctly, especially if you have someone else going room to room moving the transmitter. I do wish they had a little sheet with instructions or just printed a few lines on the box.

Easy product to use. Just slip the large end on the outlet in question. Take the receiver to your rat's nest of cables and start testing and labeling. The only con to this unit is it uses a non standard 12v cylindrical battery. You can find them here http://www.amazon.com/A23-Car-Alarm-Battery-Pack/dp/B00164CZR0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1246929638&sr=8-1. I doubt you could find them at your local Wally world.

This toner works great. The price is good and it will pay for itself the first time you need it. There are no instructions so for someone who doesn't use tools a lot I guess it might be a little difficult to figure out. But it really is very simple.

I have a large home with many TV cable access. I needed to sort out which cable goes where. This gadget made it possible. The cable guys have the same device to work with. Strongly recommend this device for a handy man. It will save you a lot of time in future!!!

Works the way it is expected to work. I found the cable I wanted to connect to the cable without having to go through a bunch of trial and error. Plug the long end into the wall plug and take the little end out to the box and whichever cable makes the little end's siren scream is the one! Bingo! It is that simple.
When you first put the battery in though test the device to itself to make sure the battery is in correctly. Well worth not having to pay $100 for something with features I don't need.

Great tool! A real time saver when trying to find out wich coax cable goes where. Simply plug the one piece of this tool to one end of the coax cable and then plug the other piece of the tool to the other end of the coax cable, when you match the right cable the light and a beep comes on! Oh and batteries are included.

Affordable coaxial cable tester for anyone!,

Due to some moving factors, I had to figure out a couple of no-signal issues regarding my Direct TV, and my mess of coaxial cables running throughout my house. Due to my builders lack of labeling any wire, I was staring at my coaxial cable input / output area, and no knowledge of what wire was going to what outlet.
My specific problem was that my DVR could record two shows at the same time, and it was working fine until I tried moving a room's signal from the current outlet to another in the same room. I failed, and got a longer cable to plug into the same outlet. However, I did notice my DVR recordings were not getting recorded, and I figured out that I disconnected the second source, which allowed it to record two programs at once, and needed to reconnect it. I went to the local Radio Shack, and they told me they do not sell any coaxial testers, so my friend suggested I look it up on the internet and see if I could buy one, and save a call to DirectTV. I saw the one on Amazon and due to the reviews I read, I bought this product. So yesterday, my friend and I got this device, looked over the instructions, and put this device to the test. We put the signal provider on the outlet in question, and after a few moments, sure enough my friend with the receiver got the beep, and reconnected the cable, and it was fixed. I would recommend this to anyone who has to test coaxial cables, this product is easy to use, durable, and a great help with non-labeled nightmares like mine.

This is a very simple and easy tool to use. Might not use it often but when a signal problem arises this helps confirm the cable connection as being good or broken.

There are no instructions for this item, and I can't even tell if I am able to turn it off. I guess it powers off unless there is a completed circuit, but I don't know. The battery is a specialty item. I would have preferred something just a tad longer using a standard AA battery. I would not know where to get a replacement battery for this 1/2 AA length battery (See my product images).
