Younger than springtime are these pretty drop earrings that feature sweet shades of violet-blue iolite and lavender amethyst for a minimal little accessory. The petite jewelry has a fresh, youthful look. Each earring contains two nicely transparent and shimmering facet-cut gemstones. First is the darker iolite - soft liquid blue - in a side-lying oval measuring 4x6 millimeters. Below is the paler amethyst in a special cut resembling a multidimensional teardrop that measures 5x7 millimeters. The iolite is bezel-set or framed in sterling silver. The earrings dangle straight and do not swing, and they fasten with ear wires. Intriguing iolite gets its name from the Greek word for violet. It is known as the gemstone for clear vision and its pleochroic property causes it to show different colors from different directions. It is the 21st anniversary gemstone. Amethyst is February’s birthstone and the sixth-anniversary gemstone, and it is believed to beckon good luck. Too petite to wear with bold fashions, these iolite and amethyst earrings brighten resort and summer whites or simple winter solids.

These silver, amethyst and iolite earrings (I got another pair of the same earrings in different combination of stones -- yellow-green peridot and pale blue topaz) are really well-made, strong, delicate, pretty, classy and work well with everything except fancy eveningwear. Though they are earwire earrings, because of the nice weight and balance, I don't worry about losing them. Yet I don't even feel them when I have them on. They make me want to tie my hair back so everyone can see them. They're a great buy, too!
