2.0 out of 5 stars Neither what I expected nor what I like, May 10, 2006
The design on this tray is fine -- a little on the tailored side, appropriate for most settings, not too many roses glopped all over it (the manufacturer also produces another that has the most horrible blunt roses around the rim). The size is useful for a party, and the 'silver-looking' (Nickel) finish doesn't require so much polishing compared to real silver.

There, I found three basically nice things to say about it.

But I just didn't like it, and I think even 25% off of the manufacturer's suggested price still leaves it significantly overpriced. This tray is basically a single, flat sheet of steel (not stainless steel, but the kind that will rust if you scratch the Nickel finish) that's been cut and bent into a shape that looks more or less like a tray with uncomfortable handles.

It looks really nice in the picture, but there's nothing nice about it in person; I wouldn't have bought it if I'd seen it in person. It feels like it's the kind of "lightweight" that means "flimsy" instead of merely not weighing very much.

If you need something cheap for a one-time event, then you might look for something like this at a local garage sale or thirft store. I am thinking about returning mine for a refund.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, but functional, May 10, 2006
This turns out to be much lighter and -- how do I say this? -- much uglier than I expected. It's a thin sheet of steel that's been hot-stamped into something like the shape of a proper serving tray. It's sturdier than flimsy (read: disposable) plastic, but it looks better in the picture than it does in person.

On the other hand, they do nest well for storage (even a dozen would only stack a couple of inches high), and when you're only paying a couple of bucks each (I suggest spending no more on this than you would if you knew it would get lost the second time you used it -- because you may be tempted to lose it on purpose), I suppose that you should expect to get nothing more than what you paid for.

This product was a great addition to my serving dishes. I thought is was larger, but nevertheless, it served its purpose.
