I am really thrilled with this Stetson hat. You couldn't ask for a better-looking and better-made summer hat. The style is great, and the sturdy construction is definitely Stetson quality. The leather hatband gives it a more rugged, Western look than most Panama hats. The brim is very wide, which is a plus if you're looking for sun protection. And it really does breathe and keep your head cool. I agree with some of the other reviewers that this hat seems to run a bit large, so you might consider ordering a size smaller than normal. I bought my normal size but ended up adding some extra padding along the sides of the inside lining to make it fit more snugly. Still, this is the perfect summer hat.

Pluses: High quality weave, finish and form. Crown ventilation is supurb. Leather headband looks sharp and the leather chin strap is very supple and very functional.

Minuses: The straw is fairly rigid and can crack if crushed. The fit is generalized so padding will probably need to be added (not provided) between the sweatband and crown for a good fit.

After reading some of the horror stories from some of the reviewers I was a little nervous about ordering this hat... I thought it was the one I wanted, but what if it arrives crushed, bent, to small, WHAT IF??? Well, I new what size I needed, took a deep breath, ordered the hat. Guess what? Fits perfectly, was not crushed, and it was the hat I dreamed it would be. So now its about 100 degrees here in Texas and I am ready to take it out for it's first adventure... trimming bushes in my back yard. Seems like a waste, but its what I bought it for. If your concerned abot ordering this hat... don't be. Mine came out just fine. Hope this helps you out.

I bought one a few months ago for the summer. I thought I would be using the hat well into the fall after the weather last year in coastal New Jersey stayed warm into November. Caveat: IMHO, you might try ordering one size smaller. The sizing charts recommended a large or even extra large, but my best fit was a medium. If the hat is too big it will sit on your ears and come down too far on the brow. The hat looks best off and above the ears. Google for some images of men wearing straw hats and you'll see what I mean. This hat is a definite "Buy".

I wear a 7 5/8 and the large size required sizing tape to fit properly.
This is a high quality hat that looks cool.

This is the second of these I have purchased for my husband. It is first of all not a cowboy hat but a very stylish Panama-like hat.

The crown is very well ventilated and the brim is lined to provide excellent shade to the face.

This is my third Stetson Airway. The Airway's design makes it one of the best looking and yet the most functional summer hats around. It helps that my head size (7 3/8-7 1/2) is such that the large is an almost perfect fit. My last Airway used regular, stiffer straw in it's construction. About two days after I bought it, an errant grand daughter accidently slammed it with the trunk lid of the car. There was no major damage at the time but she cracked and weakened the straw in the crown. Over time, the weakened straw continued to break despite my attempts to reinforce it. So when I finally got around to replace it, I opted for the slightly more expensive Panama straw. Now I have a hat with a more flexible crown and brim; one that would have had no problem with the accident that eventually ruined my last one. The flexibility of the hat also gives it a different, generally more comfortable feel. It is also a lighter, almost white color. The one minor drawback, is that the brim is somewhat smaller, about 1/4" on all around. This does slightly alter that jaunty, "Raiders of the Lost Ark" appearance that I'm fond of.

The bottom line is that the Stetson Airway, in either version, is absolutely the best summer hat I've ever run across. It is well ventilated and cool. It offers excellent sum protection. There is a neck strap for windy days that will easily tuck up out of the way. And it is also a very handsome hat is at home on the golf course, the farmer's market, or the jazz festival. I give it my highest recommendation.

Top quality in all respects, every stitch, every curve, even the leather strap ( which I remove ). Often about a $10 swing in price on this model so you might want to watch it for a bit before purchase. But to be honest, it's worth it even at the high end price range.

Certain companies in the world know how to make their product the best, Stetson is one of them in my book.

I'd recommend the Stetson Outdoors Airway Hat to just about anybody who needs relief from the sun. Where I live in South Central Texas, life without a hat, especially in the summer, is foolhearty. The Airway hat is great for wearing downtown to do business, for walking my dog, or just about any outdoor activity that I do on a regular or irregular basis. It's by no means a travel hat as its stiff construction wouldn't lend itself to the inside of a suitcase. But if what you're looking for is an all round, hot weather hat which is good for just about anything except rain, this should fill the bill.

Well, I read the reviews and knew there could be shipping problems with this company and sure enough that's exactly what happened to me. It's obvious that the person packing this hat does not know how to properly pack this item or just doesn't care. Packing material was put at the bottom of the box and then the hat was laid on top. The hat had to be pushed down to close the top of the box, which bent the hat at the top and at the brim. You would think The Golf Warehouse would have fixed this by now! I will be shipping this back for a full refund. At least they didn't give me a hard time about returning it.
