5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent solo acoustic versions of Classic Steve Earle
This reminds me of the show I saw in Newport Folk Fest in 2004 or was it 2003? Anyway, I was blown away by the Newport show and to see Steve unplugged. Only thing better than this would be to have the DVD of he and Lucinda Williams at the Folk Fest that year. This one is essential for Steve Earle fans. 1.0 out of 5 stars Scratching my head
I recently have heard a few things about this singer-songwriter and thought I'd check out a few of his CD's including this one. I must be missing something here. I have been heavy into music since the early '60's and am a big fan of Dylan, Lennon, etc. but I simply don't see the fuss over this guy. He sounds like some local coffee shop singer who sometimes has some...

Only thing better than this would be to have the DVD of he and Lucinda Williams at the Folk Fest that year. This one is essential for Steve Earle fans. If you are new to Steve Earle there is a great double CD of his greatest hits out already. Otherwise pick through his many studio releases before buying this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Steve Earle Stripped Back and Real, February 23, 2007
This review is from: Steve Earle: Live at Montreux 2005 (DVD)
This DVD captures Steve Earles performance at Montreux solo playing just guitar or mandolin. A powerful performance and in between songs he lets the audience know how he feels about the state of the world and America in particular from a fairly unbiased view point. He talks about what his inspiration is behind a lot of songs and gives a meaningful and real performance. This is a must have for anyone who likes good music.

4.0 out of 5 stars Subliminal performance, March 13, 2008
This review is from: Steve Earle: Live at Montreux 2005 (DVD)
This is one beautiful taped gig by THE man himself.

Subliminal footage and audio capturing,I give it only 4 stars beacause I don't like the version of The Devil's Right Hand he plays here, although he plays it mostly like this live.

The audio CD, Steve Earle With Friends contains in my opinion the best version and got me hooked on to the genious songwriter.

Enjoy!

Received quickly as described. I haven't viewed this copy yet, but I have viewed a friend's copy before I purchased. It is a great video at a great price. I will enter an update only if there is a problem with this particular disc.

5.0 out of 5 stars Raw and alone, September 4, 2011
This review is from: Live at Montreux 2005 (Audio CD)
I can't say I'm not biased. I almost universally love everything Steve Earle has recorded. I like what he and a guitar can do with nothing else to accompany...for most this would qualify as deep catalog, but I find it essential.

I have been heavy into music since the early '60's and am a big fan of Dylan, Lennon, etc. but I simply don't see the fuss over this guy. He sounds like some local coffee shop singer who sometimes has some interesting lyrics but the music isn't very inventive at all. It has a total lack of melody and the guitar playing is simple. Sorry I wouldn't recommend this to anyone I know.
