4.0 out of 5 stars A small gem, November 30, 1999

Earle's cover of "Before They Make Me Run," a Keith Richards song from the Rolling Stones' "Some Girls" album, is worth the price by itself. "Angel is the Devil" is also excellent.

For those of you who like Earle and the Rolling Stones, I would suggest buying a compilation album called "Cover You: A Tribute to the Rolling Stones." It has Steve Earle and the Dukes covering "Dead Flowers," the song on the Stones' Sticky Fingers album. In my opinion, Steve Earle is one of the few singers who can do Rolling Stones songs better than the Stones themselves.

4.0 out of 5 stars wish there were more, June 1, 2000

My only problem with this disc is I wish there were more of it. I ordered it because I liked their collaboration on 'NYC' (from El Corazon), and it doesn't disappoint in quality at all. Especially 'Before they make me run' (maybe Steve should do an album of Keith Richards covers - just for fun). Definately a must for Steve completists.

4.0 out of 5 stars A must for Steve Earle fanatics, February 27, 1999

All Steve Earle fans need to locate a copy of this ep. A great rocking cover of Kieth Richard's "Before They Make Me Run" and the bizarre "Creepy Jackalope Eye" make this recording a must have for Earle fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars You will wish you had two sets of ears!, June 2, 1999

The combination of Steve with the Supersuckers is out of this world. However when Mr. Earle croons to the Richards single, Walk Before They Make Me Run, it will make any grown man shed tears.

Back in 1997 Steve Earle recorded some tracks with the alternative/punk/alt-country band The Supersuckers. One of these tracks, "NYC," was released on Earle's album that year "El Corazón." Another was released on his 2002 album "Sidetracks," a Supersuckers cover called "Creepy Jackalope Eye." That song is also included here as the opening track. Also included is a Supersuckers-ized version of Earle's "Angel is the Devil," (from 1995's "Train a Comin'" album), a cover of the Keith Richards-penned "Before They Make Me Run," from The Rolling Stones' 1978 "Some Girls" album, and the original versions of both Jackalope and Angel, though I think the latter may be mixed differently or something. Sounds different than the actual album version to me.

It's great to hear Earle play with this band, as they complement each other very well. Interesting to hear him turn Jackalope into a Tex-Mex-ish country song, just as they turn Angel into a sped-up punk song. The cover of "Before They Make Me Run" is great, and extremely apropos to have Earle singing it. If you're a collector, definitely pick this up. It's too bad there aren't more songs and that Steve doesn't do more collaborations like this. An EP of songs with The Pogues would be awesome!
