About the Author
Ms. Lavette has always loved reading, writing, and running her own business. At the age of six, she started her first company, LLR Enterprises. Combining a "do it all" philosophy with a multi-faceted background, Lavaille served as a special advisor to the U.S. Secretary of Education Dr. Rod Paige from 2001 -2004. With bachelor degrees in mathematics and accounting and a Master's in Education, she has worked as an investment broker, schoolteacher, school district administrator, speechwriter, marketing executive and international business development specialist.
She founded Hajimzel International, a diverse firm with divisions handling marketing, feature-film and television development, educational entertainment, and music. Her personal and professional interests have always overlapped, but they coalesced into a single entity when she created Roopster Roux.
She originally developed the character, a rooster who loves sports and reading, to encourage her little brother Tyrone to read. Tyrone, adopted as a baby by her parents after Ms. Lavette and her other brother Greg were adults, loved sports. Roopster Roux uses that interest to cultivate an equally strong interest in reading.
The author sees the series as an invaluable weapon in the fight against illiteracy. "I want kids to experience the fun and adventure of the stories," she said. "But I also want the series to have a strong connection to children's charities and literacy."
In keeping with that intention, portions of the sales of "The Adventures of Roopster Roux series" will benefit RIF (Reading Is FUNdamental), Inc.
Vuthy Kuon has been featured on NBC, ABC, CBS, and FOX television promoting his work as an author, illustrator, and public speaker. He has spoken at hundreds of schools and conferences, entertaining thousands of children and adults across the nation.
