Product Description

They're all around us. Secret conspiracies are everywhere, and where can you find the only truth? Certainly not in the game of Illuminati. Fnord. By popular demand, Deluxe Illuminati (not to be confused with the trading-card version, INWO) is back in print! This new edition features full-color cards and improved money chits . . . but it's the same game you know and fear, of secret conspiracies battling for world control. The phone company is controlled by creatures from outer space. The Congressional Wives have taken over the Pentagon. And the Boy Sprouts are cashing in their secret Swiss bank account to smash the IRS! Two to six players compete to grab powerful groups and increase their wealth and power. No ploy is too devious, no stratagem too low, as you scheme your way to victory.

Fun, involved game for the conspiracy theory minded. I have to admit, I thought this was the older version of the game, but I later learned the one I was looking for was I:NWO or Illuminati: New World Order. Keep in mind, this may be the one you are looking for as well, as it is the infamous one released in 1995 and this is a newer version with some similar cards, but altogether, not the same thing. Nonetheless, I am still very pleased with this purchase. Some critiques would be the games fairly steep learning curve, how you have to keep track of each societies "goal" (although, I suppose it adds a layer of difficulty), and how many dumb questions you are going to receive for purchasing the game ("Is Jay-Z in the game?" No, no he is not). That aside, the game has made me a fan of Steve Jackson games and I look forward to purchasing more games by them.

I played this game for the first time this past weekend and had a lot of fun. The rules are fairly lengthy, though comprehensive. It was certainly a boon that the other 3 players at the table were more than familiar with Illuminati. Very interesting and fun strategy card-based game.

This is a simplified summary of play, the game is very exciting, tense at times and a great deal of fun. Might be a bit overwhelming for children under the age of 13. Probably a good 2 hrs of play. Little difficult to estimate as I was new, but I'm betting that's a fair estimate.

Summary of Play: You play as a controlling conspiracy/engimatic/fantastical "Illuminati" group with the goal of controlling minion groups. Each Illuminatus has special goals they can win under, for example The Gnomes of Zurich can win by amassing a fortune of 150 "megabucks" (MB) or Shangri-La can win by controlling 6 peaceful groups. There is also a standard goal of controlling ANY 12 groups. I believe the standard goal varies with the total number of players.
Each Illuminatus card and group card has attack, defense, transferable power and income ratings. You declare your intended actions on the uncontrolled groups (cards) in the kitty, or the controlled groups in other players power structures. For example, "The Servants of Cthulu will attempt to destroy/control/or neutralize The Society of Professional Sports..." Your success is determined by the difference in power and the dice roll. Let's say the Cthulu has a power rating of 7 and Sports has a resistance of 5, now you have to roll 2 or less on the dice for success. Fortunately, you can spend money from your Illuminati treasure to increase your odds. Let's spend 3 MB to add to our power rating of 7.

This game is extremely cut throat, I have seen some of the most passive people get upset over this game. It is amazing. It involves a lot of forward thinking, and a working knowledge of statistics. I love this game.

Nicer presentation than the original game. Hours of fun for you and a few friends engaging in power moves, backstabbing and paranoia!

Just take the time to understand the rules and play through a few times. The first few times aren't going to be the most fun but once you get the hang of it you can switch up the gameplay a bit. Also if you enjoy pissing off your friends, this is the game for you. Provided you aren't illiterate this game is easy to pick up and honestly, who fully understands how to play a board game correctly their first few times playing?

Great to play a whole bunch of friends.
Big learning curve, but it's good after that.
