5.0 out of 5 stars Great Morse at peak of his power!
I'm going to Disagree with some of the other reviewers here, the production is EXACTLY as it should be on this DVD, with 90% of the footage of Morse and his screaming AXE. This DVD goes back to Steve's roots with a lot of Dixie Dreg like licks. He plays a lot off of his first solo Effort "The Introduction". The sound is clear and vibrant especially in 5.1 Digital. I...

3.0 out of 5 stars Rather disappointing
I have seen Steve Morse either with the SMB or the Dregs about 12 times. I had hoped that this DVD would capture some of the amazing live magic that I have seen from him bit I was very let down. The sound is not bad, I have no real problem like some of the other reviews. Steve's performance, though, seems to me lackluster at best. His guitar is so drenched in effects,...

This review is from: Steve Morse: Live in Baden - Baden Germany March 1990 (DVD)
I really have to say how much I love Steve Morse. This may not be his most rocking DVD, in that he plays a lot of his country style music, but I love everything this man does. Its certainly the most rocking wild jam country I ever heard. The bonus footage is from a set back in time 1984 Germany adds a great group of 5 or so songs, plus one cool promo video. Ok so if you want a more pure rock sound check out "Total Abandon" the live Deep Purple set from Aus. I tell you though don't miss this it's Steve's heart and soul. If you are like me your heart and soul will soar when listening to this, it's happy hearty, healthy rock and roll. NUFF SAID.

4.0 out of 5 stars This is the best one of the Morse/Dregs DVDs, January 12, 2006

This review is from: Steve Morse: Live in Baden - Baden Germany March 1990 (DVD)
This DVD is excellent. The band gets off to a shakey start but comes together nicely. The sound quality is excellent and the camera shots are great. It beats both of the other DVDs in this regard. I especially liked the 80's bonus material with Steve on the homemade Tele/Strat frankenstein guitar and Jerry Peek in his bumblebee costume. Buy this...you won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tarzan Leather-Chaps, May 20, 2006
This review is from: Steve Morse: Live in Baden - Baden Germany March 1990 (DVD)
This is The Steve Morse Band at it's best, with clips dating back to Morgenstern and Peek. For it's time the production and sound are excellent.

The material covered on this disc are probably his best compositions that were executed with the passion I remember from the Morse performances of that era.

An absolute must for Morse fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Guitar Player of all Time, September 20, 2008
By

In my opinion, Steve Morse is without question the best guitarist/songwriter of all time. I still enjoy songs such as "Hereafter" and "Rock and Roll Park" (written by Morse when he was with the Dixie Dregs) even after hearing them countless times over the past three decades. No other music in my collection has that kind of staying power; other artists sound great at first but I don't find myself listening to them again and again like I do Steve Morse.
This DVD may not be perfect (there are a few small mistakes and the recording is not studio quality) but I have never seen this much talent on stage before. Dave LaRue and Van Romaine are also phenomenal at what they do (bass and drums) with highlights from each during the show. The passage in "Night meets Light" where Steve plays a fretted notes and harmonics counterpoint is unbelievable. For anyone who appreciates complex music and incredible talent, this DVD is worth every penny.

5.0 out of 5 stars Morse and company rock Germany!, February 6, 2008
By
This rare footage of the Steve Morse Band live in Germany is a treat for guitar players and Morse fans alike.
Guitar virtuoso Morse is joined by his very talented band of bass player Dave LaRue and drummer Van Romaine, as they do a scorching set on a local German music station in 1990.
They play quite a bit of material from Morses latest release at the time, the critically acclaimed "High Tension Wires" and many other favorites from earlier SMB releases and some Dixie Dregs.
Some extra footage includes the original Steve Morse Band performing on the same show six years earlier.
This great DVD shows you how truely talented Morse and company really is.
Check this out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Extraordinary Talent!!!!!!, September 1, 2007

This review is from: Steve Morse: Live in Baden - Baden Germany March 1990 (DVD)
The musical abilities of Mr. Steve Morse are nothing short of astounding. His skill and technique on the electric guitar is superhuman. His intelligence as a composer is on the highest level. Dixie Dregs fans will be delighted with the brilliant performances of Night Meets Light, Pride O' The Farm, and Ice Cakes. These tunes feature Steve incorporating an encyclopedia of guitar techniques and tones as he and his trio blaze through these very complicated and inventive compositions playing country funk/rock, and orchestral melody lines. Transcending all of the virtuosity is the beauty and memorable melodies of these great compositions. The production on the 1990 footage is first rate with crystal clear camera work and excellent sound. The audio quality of the 1984 bonus material is noticeably inferior, but it's a treat to view these vintage performances. The bonus tracks feature Steve's first trio with Rod Morgenstein and Jerry Peek. It's classic Morse with his long blonde locks, playing his mongrel strat with a stack of Ampegs in the background. If you want to see one of the world's greatest guitarists in action, get this dvd!

3.0 out of 5 stars Rather disappointing, July 4, 2011

I have seen Steve Morse either with the SMB or the Dregs about 12 times. I had hoped that this DVD would capture some of the amazing live magic that I have seen from him bit I was very let down. The sound is not bad, I have no real problem like some of the other reviews. Steve's performance, though, seems to me lackluster at best. His guitar is so drenched in effects, especially when clean , that it just sounds muddled. His playing just seems off and there is not the precision I expect from him. I was surprised by the amount of flubs. It is not super bad, especially compared to most guitar players, but just not what I expect from this type of musician. Dave LaRue is very much on and he plays some amazingly complicated licks. Of much higher quality to me are the performances with Peek and Morgenstern. I never saw Steve with Peek and am sad to have missed him. These few tunes make the DVD worth owning to me.

I've seen Steve Morse a few times (with the Dregs and his band) and he is an awesome guitarist. This is a great DVD because they don't put all kinds of stupid, distracting effects in when he is playing. You are pretty much watching him play. No songs are cut off, as in some DVD's I have purchased, so that is great also. If you like Steve Morse, get this, you will not be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Show, November 19, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I am a huge Steve Morse fan so you need to take this review with that in mind. This seems to have been the perfect night for these guys. It is flawless. The video and audio production could be better, but it doesn't matter. For the most part, the video shots are good and they did a great job in selecting the right solos and shot selection throughout most of the video.

All of the songs are great, but there are a handful worth mentioning:

Country Colors, Highland Wedding, Night Meets Light, Tumeni Notes, Pride of the Farm, Cruise Missile and Ice Cakes. During Ice Cakes, there is a shot where they are jamming and the video shows them standing in a row, which is a pretty cool and somewhat innovative shot.

Any Steve Morse fan should have this video. Anyone that says the video and audio quality is too poor should focus on the fact that this is Steve at the TOP of his game. Dave on bass with Van on drums are amazing on every song. Order it, spread the word, and have a blast!

I am a fan of the Dregs and Steve Morse, so when I found out about this DVD I bought it. Most of it is good, except that they do some Dregs tunes that sound a bit empty with only three instruments. The sound and picure quality are good. If you are a fan, you should buy this.
