Beck does it again!, October 24, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Steve Threw Up (Audio CD)
I am hoping and praying that some day, some DGC oaf will have a moment of lucidity and compile a collection of Beck B-sides and rarities. A double album. I have a 60-minute tape at home, but I can't keep up with all the obscure stuff. One outstanding entry that I do have is "Steve Threw Up", which is a Beck rarity, not only in numbers produced, but in style, as he actually does a narrative in this song, a surrealistic tale of one guy named Steve who goes on an acid trip at a fair, and throws up while on the top of the ferris wheel. It's one of Becks shining folk moments, and it has a great ending. The B-side is "Motherf*****." It's the Mellow Gold version, but it has a little bit added on at the end that must have made those DGC stiffs cower under the table. Trust me, you have to hear it to believe it. If you think you're a Beck fan, take it upon yourself to find this one. Your best bet is to go to your local independant record store (if there's still any left) and surf through the vinyl section. Or maybe Amazon.com (as long as I'm here, I guess I might as well plug 'em). It's worth it.
