A beautiful recording,
By A Customer
This review is from: Steven Isserlis - Haydn: Cello Concertos in C & D, Sinfonia Concertante (Audio CD)
In this recording of Haydn's two cello concertos, Steven Isserlis demonstrates his absolutely gorgeous tone combined with technical prowess and authentic style. Unlike most other recordings of the cello concertos, Isserlis performs with a small orchestra and takes a faster tempo, sticking close to all of Haydn's musical instructions. As always, Isserlis breezes beautifully through the treacherous technical passages, playing them as music to equal the famous singing lines. Every note is heard crystal clear. The divertimento reveals Isserlis's lesser known (but no less sophisticated) side as a chamber musician. The instruments blend perfectly, and the music is reminiscent of one of Haydn's great symphonies. If you're looking for a recording of the Haydn cello concertos, this is certainly one of the very best, with the added bonus of the divertimento.

A Great Recording of Haydn's Cello Concerti,

This review is from: Steven Isserlis - Haydn: Cello Concertos in C & D, Sinfonia Concertante (Audio CD)
Steven Isserlis' performances of Haydn's cello concerti, as well as some of Haydn's other music, are absolutely splendid. His playing is replete with elegant lyricism and technique; without question, his interpretations of Haydn's scores are among the finest I have heard. Of special note is Isserlis' inspired performance of Haydn's Sinfonia Concertante. He is blessed with having Sir Roger Norrington and the Chamber Orchestra of Europe as excellent accompanists. The sound quality is superb.

Wrong Names!,

Great music. However, beware if you are buying the mp3 separately from Amazon. The second and third movements of the Hadyn in C (Adagio and Allegro Molto) have their names switched. The one that says Adagio is actually Allegro Molto and vice versa. You can see this from the preview and its the same for when you buy it. The mp3 file you download have the wrong names.

A fine recording of a wonderful concerto. I can't say more because I just heard Wendy Warner perform this work with the Philadelphia Chamber Orchestra and, to be honest, I have to say wait for her to record it. Then buy. She is amazing. Her instrument is rich and full and her performance breathtaking.
