5.0 out of 5 stars Exellent Grid Lifter
This grid lifter works better than expected. I have a great grill but the cast iron grates are heavy and cumbersome to lift, especially, when they are hot. With the Steven Raichlen Grid Lifter there is no longer a need to wait for the grid to cool and they are actually easier to clean when they are hot.

This is an excellent grill accessory and I recommend it...

3.0 out of 5 stars Works, but questionable value
Although cheaper grill lifters are available, I chose to go with what I believed to be a quality product. This product is functional, but is of questionable value as cost was roughly $25 by the time it reached my door. The build is okay, but the pickup bar had been welded slightly off axis making it slightly unparalleled to the main frame. This did not appear to affect...

4.0 out of 5 stars Great while they last, June 22, 2008

I am on my second one (which just broke) in two years. Apparently SR changed designs, as my #2 is very different from the first one I bought (which was graciously replaced for free, when I contacted the manufacturer.)

I grill every day, and use heavy cast-iron grates, so if one of these lasts me a year, I guess I should be satisfied for the price. I am ordering a new one.

i actually read about this in Steven's book. I think every Grill myster must have this tool. Its simple yet so many people don't think about it. On several occasions i had to reload hot coals but couldn't lift the gritts. This tool is a must!

1.0 out of 5 stars Great Product but Quality Lacks, January 23, 2012

This review is from: Steven Raichlen Best of Barbecue Grill Grid Lifter with Black Wood Handle (Lawn & Patio)
This is a great product at least in concept. However the weld at the bottom of the tee is VERY weak. The first one that I ordered arrived broken so I sent it back. Super quick replacement by Amazon. The second one lasted just over a month and then it broke in the same place as the first one. I really love the tool but the company that they use to manufacture or do there welding does a VERY poor job. So my suggestion is do not waste your money on this grill gadget and use a vise grip pliers like I did before and will now continue to use going forward.

This did not appear to affect performance, but I would not expect this lack of detail for the price paid.

There is a slight learning curve as the first tendency is to squeeze the handle when lifting the grill. This technique would cause the lifter to lose grasp of the grill; not what you want. You need to leave the thumb loose and lift with the other fingers only. Another important operational note is to find the weighted center of your grill grate and insert lifter there so it is balanced when you lift. Nothing worse that a wobbly hot grill sliding off your lifter.

Needed improvements:
More secure grasp of grill - My grates are heavy. If I'm off center with the grab, the lifter can lose grip of the grate and slide. This could be alleviated by texturing the contact surfaces of the lifter. Stronger clamp springs would also help, but would require user to have stronger grip.

The product works and is backed by a reputable name in the industry. I'm just not convinced that it's a better choice than the generic brand lifters.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great charcoal grilling tool, January 2, 2009
This review is from: Steven Raichlen Best of Barbecue Grill Grid Lifter with Black Wood Handle (Lawn & Patio)
This is a great tool for anyone who likes to grill with charcoal. It is very handy to be able to pick up the hot or greasy grill with this to add coals or clean out your grill. Another Steven Raichlen awesome tool. Well built and well engineered for the job.
