4.0 out of 5 stars Great CD - But not quite original songs!
Hi folks,

As a fan of Stevie B since the mid 80's (started with "In My Eyes", "I Wanna Be the One") I am glad he is getting some due recognition with not one but TWO greatest hits album of which this is the second one.

3.0 out of 5 stars Stevie B. is the man, but these are remixes
I just want to echo my fellow reviewers on the question of remixes on this album.

In my view, Stevie B's work offers 80s freestyle dance music at its best - songs like Spring Love and Dreaming of Love have to rank among the best 80s dance songs.

However . . . I would not recommend buying this album if you are looking to recapture the Stevie B tracks of yore as you...

Hi folks,

As a fan of Stevie B since the mid 80's (started with "In My Eyes", "I Wanna Be the One") I am glad he is getting some due recognition with not one but TWO greatest hits album of which this is the second one.

Even though I had the first "greatest hits" album ("The Best of Stevie B") I decided to give this one a listen and I was impressed. The older songs that we all knew and loved ("Spring Love, etc.) from the 80's have been remastered and remixed and thus are NOT the original recordings. But the remixes stand up fairly well and are good.

The main reason I bought the album for one of his more recent (but not very well known) songs, "You Are The One". I feel this is one of his best songs since his mid 80's heyday. Unfortunately, the song (and the album that it was on) didn't get a lot of publicity except from die-hards.

To conclude: This album is with picking up even if the original songs are remixed. This album also includes some of Stevie's more recent material ("Dream About You", Stevie's remix of the Jaya hit "If You Leave Me Now") and is a good intro to Stevie's music. If you are a true diehard and want the original material, I would suggest you also pick up the aforementioned "The Best of Stevie B" which includes Stevie's original mixes for many of his earlier hit songs but doesn't include the more recent material.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not Remixes...Complete re-recordings., February 10, 2004
By

The songs on this CD are not simple remixes of the songs. They are complete re-recordings. Every instrument was replayed by me when I was working for Stevie back in 1997....and every vocal track was recut. I took the time to make sure that the sounds I used were as close to the original as possible. The tracks actually sound a bit better than the originals due to technology....hard to replicate old analog recording on the new gear we had.

Why re-record everything you ask? Well....The old label Stevie was on for all of these songs actually "own" the recordings for all the old material. We could not release a "Best ofs" CD without their permission. They threatened to sue if we did....So....we had to do the next thing... Replay every instrument and recut every vocal track.

I only rated this 4 stars because it's not the "original material". Alot of time and work that went into the project. Very close to the original material down to every percussion noise and note. Lots of love for his music in this project.

Warm Regards,
Lindle

I just want to echo my fellow reviewers on the question of remixes on this album.

In my view, Stevie B's work offers 80s freestyle dance music at its best - songs like Spring Love and Dreaming of Love have to rank among the best 80s dance songs.

However . . . I would not recommend buying this album if you are looking to recapture the Stevie B tracks of yore as you heard them all those years ago. All the songs are here, but are remixed - which is offputting for those of us who remember them. I'm sure that these tracks will sound great to first-time listeners. They haven't changed too much to be essentially different songs - the quality is still there.

For those of us who remember them from the late 80s, though, I would recommend finding an album with the original versions - he does have another greatest hits collection out (I don't know what kind of mixes are on it). If you're a purist like me, listening to remixes can be distracting.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not bad, but not what I expected, December 4, 2002

I bought this CD anticipating it was going to contain the original recordings of some of my favorite Stevie B recordings and not remixes of each song. Don't get me wrong it isn't a bad CD which I don't regret buying, it's just that I prefer the original recordings since i've enjoyed Stevie B's for over 15 years and hearing these remixes just isn't the same.

The remixes on the CD are ok, they added more vocals and the keyboards seem to be a little bit louder and redone. Tracks like "Spring Love", "In My Eyes", "Dreamin of Love" don't have that same feeling they had on the originals recordings. This would have been a perfect CD if it would have contained the original releases, but still a good CD.

This review is from: Stevie B. - The Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
This album is perfect for anyone who is either in love with someone and they need to express that love or who has just broken up with someone and they miss them. Play this C.D. for your significant other and they will surely melt. His lyrics are deep and heartfelt and his music and voice add power to already outstandingly written music. Any fan of Dance and Freestyle MUST have this album in their collection!

I'm just an average overdedicated fan. This album brings out the best in all Stevie B's songs. His voice has a bit of every emotion and involves a variety of tone range. The lyrics are simple yet fun and a create a positive image. I think he has the most beautiful voice and hope to hear /see more of Stevie B in the futre :-)
