5.0 out of 5 stars Stevie's Solo Debut Stuns the Disbelievers
Those who thought that Stevie Nicks would not make it as a solo artist in 1981 were without a doubt proved wrong. Stevie went on to have her debut album reach number one on the Billboard charts, and eventually receive a cult following who would remain loyal to her for years. This video, "White-winged Dove", chronicles that dramatic year for Stevie on tour...

1.0 out of 5 stars Defective VHS tape
Although the video is a great one, the copy I got was a disappointment. The sound is messed up, and after watching it, I found it would not rewind. It is a used copy, but it ended up being $[...] bucks for nothing.

Those who thought that Stevie Nicks would not make it as a solo artist in 1981 were without a doubt proved wrong. Stevie went on to have her debut album reach number one on the Billboard charts, and eventually receive a cult following who would remain loyal to her for years. This video, "White-winged Dove", chronicles that dramatic year for Stevie on tour. Throughout the video, not only does Stevie give warm and heartfelt performances, she also charms her audience with her hits from the band that helped to shoot her to superstardom, Fleetwood Mac. This is Stevie Nicks at her best. Keeping her performance electrifying, you'll never know what she's going to do next. Unlike the more disappointing Red Rocks video, this seems just like what you would see at a Stevie Nicks concert, without all of the glitzy footage and camerawork that accompanied Red Rocks. If ever one was to purchase a Stevie Nicks video tape, this would be my first recommendation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stevie bares her soul and her magic carries you away., January 3, 1999
This review is from: Stevie Nicks in Concert [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Rolling Stone called Stevie Nicks the Queen of Rock years ago. As a contemporary of hers (I think she's probably 50 years old now) I couldn't agree more. I believe this concert was live on HBO back in '82 or '83. It stuck in my mind all these years. In my mind I could still see Waddy Wachtel spinning around his guitar as Stevie danced and kicked and dreamed her way around the stage. I guess, because it was a vivid memory, I never thought of the video until recently. Let me tell you that it was even better than I remembered. If you know anything about Stevie's life, her love affairs, her drug addiction, her best friend dying of Leukemia...you can see all those things in her eyes and hear them in her voice. Coupled with the fact that it was the last show of a short solo tour made it even more poignant and emotional. It was a performance of a lifetime by a performer of a lifetime. For me, it was like discovering her music again. The intelligence and honesty of her lyrics capture you and drag you into her life. At times, the enormity of her talent, her beauty and her expressions will bring you to tears. Her melodies and rhythms are complex (Edge of Seventeens) to almost primitive in their simplicity (Draggin' My Heart Around) and run the gammut of emotions. Everything about her is original, unique and fresh, even now, almost 20 years later. BUY THIS VIDEO. Stevie is still the Queen of Rock 'n' Roll and if she does'nt already own a place in your heart...make room.

4.0 out of 5 stars A touching and heartfelt performance by Stevie Nicks., May 4, 1999
This review is from: Stevie Nicks in Concert [VHS] (VHS Tape)
After watching this video, my heart aches for Stevie during this tragic time in her life. I believe this may have been recorded right after the death of her best friend Robin Anderson from leukemia. (In fact, I believe that that was the reason the tour was cut short.) As a result, every song is FULL of emotion, especially Dreams, Edge of Seventeen and Rhiannon. At the end of the concert, Stevie is crying and you can tell that she appreciates her audience being there for her in this time of distress. A bonus to this video is the introduction by her father. I also found that very touching. Definitely worth owning

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Enchanting, April 18, 2002

This review is from: Stevie Nicks in Concert [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Just received this video which I haven't seen since it originally aired on HBO. What an outstanding and energetic performance by Stevie! Eighties big hair aside...she looked terrific and sounded better! Knowing that this show was the last night of a tour cut short by the death of Stevie's best fried, it is easy to see why there is so much emotion in this performance. This video is a definite must for any true Stevie fan. Maybe one day they will release it on DVD.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a must have!, November 8, 1999

Stevie sounded so good! Although some of the music for Gold Dust Woman was off Stevie was great! Tom Petty did sound better on Stop Draggin' My Heart Around but it wasn't that bad. My favorite part was when she sang Rhiannon! I cried and I was so surprised how emotional Stevie got. You have to love her!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Experience of a Lifetime..., March 29, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Stevie Nicks in Concert [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Now, I may be a little biased, because I'm a HUGE Stevie/Mac fan, but this tape is definitely one of the best concert videos you'll ever see. Stevie performs some of her classic Fleetwood Mac songs (Gold Dust Woman, Dreams, Sara, Rhiannon) and some nice tunes from her first (and then only) solo album, Bella Donna (Outside the Rain, Stop Draggin' my Heart Around, Edge of Seventeen). There are also two very nice additions. The first is Gold and Braid, which you can only hear on this video, or on the third disc of the Enchanted collection. While this is nice, it is FAR surpassed by Stevie's incredible cover of Tom Petty's "I need to know", where her incredibly deep and powerful voice thunders through the song as she playfully dances around the stage.

Some people have complained that the music is "off" on Gold Dust Woman (I may be tone deaf or something), but it sounds great to me, and the vocals are incredible. It's definitely the best version of this song to be had. Next up, Gold and Braid is a solid performance, and Stevie's dancing is fun to watch. I Need to Know is incredible. Outside the Rain runs right into Dreams, and both are performed wonderfully. Definitely better than the way they appeared on the Red Rocks video. Stop Draggin' My Heart around is wonderful, too, though Waddy Watchel doesn't sound QUITE as good as Tom Petty. Sara is incredible touching. It made me cry. Edge of Seventeen, once again, you need this video or the Enchanted Collection to hear this performance, and it's better than the original. The conclusion of Rhiannon is very touching and beautiful, not to mention dramatic. The whole show is certainly an adrenaline rush.

If you're one of those people who thinks that Lindsey Buckingham was the true genius behind Fleetwood Mac and Stevie was just along for the ride, prepare to be proven wrong.

5.0 out of 5 stars True romantics and "daydream believers", listen up!, April 2, 1999

This review is from: Stevie Nicks in Concert [VHS] (VHS Tape)
The "In Concert (White Wing Dove)" video captures Stevie Nicks at her absolute best. In 1982, as a veteran of Fleetwood Mac, she is a polished artist with a trademark style who has mastered the subtleties of captivating an audience. And yet she is a novice to solo performing, which lends a poignant innocence and freshness to this concert that are never duplicated in her later videos. The artificial "glitz" of studio videos, as well as the sometimes raucous and nerve-jangling frenetic energy of a "Red Rocks" style "Nicks-In" extravaganza, are thankfully missing from the "White Wing Dove" tape. The watchwords for the "White Wing Dove" production are simplicity, honesty and intimacy. The cameras mostly focus in close on Stevie, with the overriding objective of showcasing her breathtaking beauty and artistry unadulterated by extraneous distractions. In this setting, Stevie Nicks casts a spell that is totally engaging and truly unforgettable. The song set is classic Nicks - the best from "Bella Donna" and Fleetwood Mac with a couple of interesting additions - but the impact is timeless. My only criticisms of this otherwise "perfect 10" tape are the inclusion of mood-disrupting backstage footage before the encore (you see Stevie out of stage character), and the cutting of the beautiful "Leather and Lace" rendition, which reappears incongruously on the later 1986 "I Can't Wait" studio compilation video.

5.0 out of 5 stars Take THAT disbelievers!, March 6, 2004
This review is from: Stevie Nicks in Concert [VHS] (VHS Tape)
To start off, this video is absolutely great. It has s o much energy, and the supporting band is a completely classy act of extremely talented and unique performers. I found it hard to believe this video was her first solo tour when I first watched it, because she was oozing so much confidence, and looked so experienced. Stevie's voice really slams all the notes in every song, (except "Dreams"), and it truly is a pleasure to watch all the way through. She mixes her new songs with a few older Fleetwood Mac numbers : "Sara" 'Rhiannon" "Dreams" and "Gold Dust Woman", and all of these excel past the 'Fleetwood Mac Live!" album, not that "Gold Dust Woman" was on that one, but it is still really good. The only disappointment on this video in my opinion is "Dreams", which is just truly truly awful. The rhythm is off, her tone is definitely off, and the back up singers join the chorus at the wrong pitch repeatedly. Also the upper notes have gone, which is a shame, and really puts this rendition at a disadvantage. Her new songs include : "Edge of Seventeen" "Gold and Braid", which are both EXCEPTIONALLY good, "Outside the Rain", "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around", and Tom Petty cover "I Need To Know". Her outfits are always interesting, and her dance moves are always enjoyable to watch, so as she has lots of costume changes and dances a lot, this is a damn good video all round! An ABSOLUTE must for ANY Stevie Nicks fan of ANY degree, as it marks her serious talent for performing, and shows off her wonderful songs in their brightest light. Rock On ..
