5.0 out of 5 stars This 2nd Edition is Far Superior to the 1st
I'm not sure if "Reader from Australia" in the previous review has the 1st Edition of this book, but I'll assume so. In this 2nd Edition, nothing has changed but the transcriptions (cover and song selections are identical), and these have been done by Jesse Gress (he did the work on the IN STEP guitar book among others). The TAB is great and the selections...

1.0 out of 5 stars Should have read all the reviews before buying this book
I should have listened to the 1st review of this book. Whoever transcribed this book must not have had his hearing aide on. The transcriptions are missing notes that you can clearly hear on the CD. It's like the transcriber was trying to simplify the songs rather than transcribe it "AS RECORDED". I was very disappointed with this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars This 2nd Edition is Far Superior to the 1st, April 8, 2000

This review is from: Stevie Ray Vaughan - Lightnin' Blues 1983-1987 (Paperback)
I'm not sure if "Reader from Australia" in the previous review has the 1st Edition of this book, but I'll assume so. In this 2nd Edition, nothing has changed but the transcriptions (cover and song selections are identical), and these have been done by Jesse Gress (he did the work on the IN STEP guitar book among others). The TAB is great and the selections give a wonderful overview of Stevie's recorded output from 1983 through 1987.

The songs included are: [from TEXAS FLOOD] Dirty Pool - I'm Cryin' - Love Struck Baby - Mary Had A Little Lamb - Pride And Joy - Texas Flood [from COULDN'T STAND THE WEATHER] Cold Shot - Couldn't Stand The Weather - Honey Bee - Scuttle Buttin' - Stang's Swang - Voodoo Child (Slight Return) [from SOUL TO SOUL] Change It - Come On (Part III) - Gone Home - Life Without You - Look At Little Sister - Lookin' Out The Window - You'll Be Mine [from LIVE ALIVE] Ain't Gone 'n' Give Up On Love - I'm Leaving You (Commit A Crime) - Say What! - Superstition - Willy The Wimp [from BACK TO THE BEACH] Pipeline.

Keep in mind this is the 2nd Edition (this is stamped in white on the front cover just beneath the "Recorded Versions" logo). Though the description above doesn't designate this, the photo Amazon provides does (though it's not too legible).

Bottom Line: More then enough blistering SRV style blues to shred anyone's fingers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Stevie Ray tab, November 2, 2002

If you want to play some of SRV's songs get this book. I have the second edition and I have found the transcriptions to be quite accurate. I have found SRV transcriptions from other books that were not accurate. For example, Pride and Joy from the Hal Leonard "Blues Guitar Bible" is not accurate. It sounds as if the "Bible" version was transcribed from a different version of the song. Oddly enough, both books are Hal Leonard books. Bottom line, make sure you get the second edition transcribed by Jesse Gress.

5.0 out of 5 stars PLAY ALONG, OR JUST PLAY BETTER!!!, September 17, 2004

This review is from: Stevie Ray Vaughan - Lightnin' Blues 1983-1987 (Paperback)
This is the greatest Stevie Ray Vaughan guitar-tablature book by all means......including 25 guitar song's spanning SRV's entire career with blistiring blues songs including Texas Flood, and Come On(Pt.3). This also includes live recordings like Im Leaving You(Commit A Crime), and Say What. This also features Pipeline from David Bowie's back to the beach album. This 2nd edition is better than the first they corrected many of their mistakes. This is the closest you will get to steive ray vaughan. I recomend this book to any guitarist seeking for only the best. Everyone can play along to this Lightnin' Blues spanning through 83-87. Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars 2nd edition review, March 3, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Stevie Ray Vaughan - Lightnin' Blues 1983-1987 (Paperback)
Good book (2nd edition), precise transcriptions. I already knew Mary Had a Little Lamb and a couple of licks off Couldnt Stand the Weather, and the book version is dead on. I actually corrected a few licks I didnt get right in the first place. I wish they would have included Lenny, Rude Mood and Little Wing.

1.0 out of 5 stars not a note for note transcription, July 6, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Stevie Ray Vaughan - Lightnin' Blues 1983-1987 (Paperback)
Dissapointing, should have paid more attention to what I was buying in the first place.

If someone was transcribing it, then I am sure that they were suffering from substance abuse.

Made its way to the bin very quickly.

I have had this book a long time and have learned a few songs from it over the years. Transcriptions are pretty accurate for the most part, not that I can play like SRV anyway. I would buy this book again.
